Warangal, Oct 8: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan was killed and five others were severely injured in a road accident on National Highway-163 between Warangal and Eturunagaram under Tadvai police station limits on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as M Ramakanth, 35, a resident of Karimnagar district and a jawan of the 39th Battalion of the CRPF deployed in Wazeedu mandal of Mulugu district.

According to Tadvai Sub-Inspector K Jagadish, Ramakanth and fellow CRPF jawans Girish Kumar, Prem Prakash and Ram Prasad were travelling in a DCM vehicle from Eturunagaram towards Mulugu. When they reached the Pasara forest toll area, a speeding truck rammed their vehicle.

The truck subsequently collided with a car travelling in the opposite direction. Ramakanth died on the spot, while Girish Kumar, Prem Prakash and Ram Prasad were injured in the crash.

The occupants of the car, identified as junior assistant Sd Sofiya and typist P Ramesh, both working at the Govindaraopet Mandal Parishad Development Office (MPDO), were trapped inside the vehicle. They were travelling to the office to attend duty when the accident occurred.

On receiving information, SI Jagadish and his team rushed to the spot and initiated rescue operations. An earthmover was brought in to remove the truck, DCM vehicle and car from the highway.

The accident resulted in a traffic jam stretching for more than two kilometres on NH-163. The injured were shifted to MGM Hospital in Warangal for treatment, while Ramakanth's body was taken to Mulugu Government Hospital for postmortem.

"A case was registered and investigation is underway," Jagadish said.
