Moodbidri: Pillion rider succumbs to injuries in scooter skid, death toll rises to two

Moodbidri, Oct 8: A pillion rider, who sustained severe injuries after a scooter skidded at a curve near the Veera Maruti temple in Kotebagilu on Wednesday evening, succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.

The deceased has been identified as Deekshith Poojary, son of Chandra, residing in a rented house in Kotebagilu. The rider, Prashwith Hegde, son of Sudhakar Hegde, died on Wednesday evening itself. Deekshith, who was admitted to a private hospital in Mangaluru, failed to respond to treatment and breathed his last late in the night.

The accident occurred on Wednesday evening when the duo was heading from Kotebagilu towards Shirthady. Their scooter skidded, throwing both riders onto the road and leaving them critically injured.

It is gathered that neither youth was wearing a helmet at the time of the mishap. Due to the impact of the fall, their heads struck the road, resulting in fatal head injuries.
