CRPF Bunker Removed in Srinagar's Old City

Srinagar, Apr 2 (IANS): A 20-year-old paramilitary bunker was removed from Srinagar's old city Monday to satisfy locals who had been demanding its removal from the area.

Sudhir Kumar, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) told IANS: "The bunker at Chinkra Mohalla in the old city Srinagar was removed today (Monday)."

The state government has been pushing for a phased removal of the paramilitary bunkers from different cities and towns of the Kashmir Valley to reduce the footprints of the security forces, in proportion with the overall improvement in the law and order situation.

Last year, over a dozen paramilitary bunkers were removed from heavily-populated areas in Kashmir.

"Two more bunkers are being removed from Srinagar city next week and the process will continue as the situation improves," sources told IANS.
