Durban, Oct 11: Australia batter Matt Renshaw has surpassed Virat Kohli’s record for the most runs scored while batting alongside lower-order batters and tailenders in a single Test innings, achieving the feat against South Africa at Kingsmead.
Renshaw scored 174 runs while batting with players at numbers 8 to 11 during his career-best innings of 190 off 397 balls. Coming in when Australia were in trouble, his knock helped the visitors reach 390 all out on the second day of the ongoing Test.

Kohli previously held the record after scoring 171 runs alongside the tailenders during his 235-run innings against England at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium in 2016.
Renshaw’s achievement marks a new benchmark for contributions made alongside the tail in a single Test innings.
