Nagoya, Oct 23: India’s Sandeep Singh Mann broke the world record in the men’s 400m final to win gold at the Para Asian Games 2026, while fellow Indian athlete Haney also rewrote the record books with a remarkable performance in the men’s javelin event.

Competing at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium, Sandeep Singh Mann clocked 52.28 seconds to claim gold in the T44, T42 and T64 classifications. He led the race from the start and maintained his advantage until the finish, despite a late surge from Saudi Arabia’s Alsana Noor.

His victory helped India cross the 100-medal mark at the Games. India’s Ajay Kumar also finished on the podium, clocking 53.61 seconds to win bronze.

Haney delivered another record-breaking performance in the men’s F37/38 javelin event, breaking the world record twice during the competition. He first recorded a throw of 59.72 metres in his fifth attempt before improving it to 60.49 metres in his final attempt to secure gold.

The previous world record stood at 57.81 metres, set by China’s Xia Dong in 2008. Haney’s performance took India’s gold medal tally to 26, as he successfully defended the title he had won at the Hangzhou edition of the Para Asian Games.

Haney specialises in throwing events, including javelin and discus, and competes in the F37 classification. Athletes in this category have coordination and movement impairments associated with conditions such as hypertonia, ataxia or athetosis.
