Mangalore: Historic Judgement - Man Gets Jail Until Death for Sexual Assault and Murder

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore

Mangalore, Apr 4: Mangalore's second additional and sessions court has delivered a historic judgement on 39-year-old Dinesh Gowda for sexually assaulting and murdering dalit women 28-year-old Sarojini in 2010, October 3.

The hearing of the case was over on Saturday March 31, and the verdict was delivered on Tuesday April 3 by judge G D Narasinham Murthy.

On October 3, 2010, Sarojini left for Kaikamba to buy clothes at 11.30 am, never to return. Next day, her body was found near an unused pump shed at Ordoor. The body was found in a half naked state, with the head hit by a stone.

The then Panambur circle inspector Valentine D'Souza took charge of investigation of the case and cracked the murder within four days. Dinesh Gowda was employed in a rubber farm, where Sarojini was also working. Later, Sarojini left her job and joined a cashew company. During investigation it was found that Dinesh was trying to pursue Sarojini for sex, but his attempt was not successful while she was working with him at the rubber farm..

It was revealed during the interrogation that Dinesh Gowda took Sarojini forcefully to a place near Ordoor which comes under Bajpe police station limits, and attempted to rape her. When Dinesh did not succeed in intention, he hit her with a huge stone and killed her on the spot.

Having escaped from the spot, Dinesh Gowda claimed innocence, but the police team led by Valentine D'Souza zeroed in on Dinesh and nabbed him on October 7.

The court sentenced Dinesh to life until his last breath, according to IPC section 302 and 307. As the victim was from a backward caste, the sentence becomes more crucial. This is one of the rarest cases in the history of Mangalore as far as verdict is concerned.

This culprit gowda looks in the picture like film hero, giving a slight smile, and holding chain in his own hand, as if he is going to catch a nother culprit. Hats off to the cameraman who clicked the photograph, similar photographs we need to see of MLA'S AND MP'S of our karnataka.

Why is he not hand cuffed on both hand's, but carrying the chain in his hand. It should be cuffed to his leg or the Policeman's leg, so that he will not escape. He is least bothered about the sentence and is walking as if going to a picnic. Whatever, the policemen are stunned we can say that by the look on their face.

It is far better judgment than a death sentence. The accused should suffer and not escape from it through death. They are one more man-power to work inside jail for the betterment of our country.

Lydia Lobo, Kadri..no crime is petty or small. Crime is a crime. We have highlighted Kasab and Guru case just to say that how our legal system works. Definitely this rapist should be punished so that there will be no rapes in future. Similarly, Kasab and Guru should be punished at the earliest. Why Indian Government has to spend tax payer's money on these dreaded terrorists Kasab and Guru. Or you feel whatever Kasab and Guru did is minor attack?

Does it mean if the the girl belongs to Upper/other caste and religion it doesn't become crucial? does it mean our IPC section too has mentions for discrimination on cast and religion?

Congrats to the inspector who did his great job in nabbing the culprit in four days. Happy that justice given within two years....

Rakesh Shetty...check your facts. Kasab and Afzal Guru were innocent during BJP rule also. Also BJP minister at the centre accompanied the terrorist to Afghanistan. Don't understand why your memory is short. All political parties in India are interested in vote bank..and BJP too is interested in vote bank.

Those who are so concerned about Kasab/Afzal Guru, don't give a heed to Prveen Kumar ? Perhaps they don't want Praveen Kumar to be punished because his crime is petty in their perception ?

Valentine D'Souza is a strict fearless officer body builder, l should say " Gundu Kallu" congratulation to him for nabbing the culprit n giving justice to a Dalit woman. Few yrs b4 in Udupi then congres MLA U R Sabhpathi refused to switch of the mike system after 12pm during his relatives
marriage n manhandled the constable. Mr. Valentine rushed to the spot and pulled the electric wires. Sabhapathi tried his best to suspend him. But could not succeed, when local supported Mr. Valentine. Hats off to Valentine n bold judges of sessions court.

This is historic judgement...Man shall remain in jail until his death !!!. Court in similar judgements should also pass a judgement to make rapist as impotent and libidoless. They should not think about sex in their dreams.. Make them sexually dysfunctional... see the results... No rape at all.... Human rights please dont interfere as its your dirty habit to interfere even in crime related judgements..

    Dear John

Imprisonment with life until death seems to be the best punishment for this man. He should realize his mistake till he breathes the last. Every person has one life. Some go to extent of killing other to satisfy their biological urge and some not, but the victim if survive is under tremendous stress.

Now that the stress is passed to this man who can only breathe and do some petty job inside the jail, will fill his stomach by doing odd jobs inside the four wall. If he is hung, then he is free from this world and also washes his sins once for all, which is not fare.

the fellow room-mates who are there for petty crimes, will learn a lesson by seeing him, atleast for not to get into this kind of attrocities.

Kasab is expensive to the cell, but he deserves to lead an empty life that is stressful. If hung, citizens may feel happy but with him leading a stressful empty life, we are constantly warned to safeguard our country. If hung, his story is over and there would be another Kabab wanting to do the same.

Great job by the police. Sometimes police get frustrated as the lawyers know how to set the guilty free. Please do not compare this person with Afzal or Kasab. This person will be working inside the jail premises till the last and the government will not spend any extra money on his security. After few years, if he is repentent and works hard, he will be supervising other inmates inside the jail. That is how the jail works for the common man.

I remember the famous saying in Kannada.."Yellarannu bitooo montanannu hidee". What about punishment for Ajmal Kasab and Afzal Guru, the dreaded terrorists? What about punishment who swindled crores of public money? Our law is very liberal to terrorists, corrupt and criminals. There should not be any discrimination. All should be equal in front of law and death sentence should be the only punishment for all these crimes so that peace loving people can live peacefully.
