Mangalore: Student Thrashed by Seniors, Rescued by Corporator

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SK)

Mangalore, Apr 4: In a fit of rage, two students were beaten up by ten of their senior students in the middle of the road and one of them was pushed into a deep ditch beside the road. The incident took place near Nantoor on Tuesday April 3 night. The seniors were reportedly ragging the juniors.

Robin, a native of Kerala and first-year student of a medical college here, was pushed into the ditch.

He was then rescued by corporator Diwakar and his friends who were travelling along this way.

Another student who was beaten up along with him managed to escape. Robin after being pushed into the ditch dangled from a branch and managed to survive. He was saved on time by Diwakar.

Robin was first taken to the police station and later admitted to hospital as he was hurt on his head. The incident took place around 9.30 in the night.

This ragging menace has become intolerable. Earlier ragging was only a form of teasing whereby the newcomers would be made to interact with the seniors. Now it has become total goondagiri. No wonder a new student enters the college premises with trepedition. Well, since the college authorities are turning a blind eye and the police is incapable of taking action in the absence of any substantial evidence, I wish the public would revolt and take the culprits to task including the management of the college and force them to take corrective action.

One more thing. I was reading the comments. The comments on cow slaughter have crept into this news item. Is this a glitch in the internet or due to negligence of people to click on the right news item?

This news about the ragging. Ragging is done by the students whose parents must have paid high donation or infuence to get his admission. Such students have no right to continue thier studies. They should be punished. Keep aside politics and religion.

Mr. Rakesh Shetty, Can you tell me who has given the authority or rights to Bajrangadal??? How can some one give right to criminals to control over criminals? When Bajrangadal's them self are criminals. They are the one who destroyed the peace in our Mangalore. There was a time when Mangalore was named for peace. The main cause to destroy the peace in Mangalore are Bajrangal Dal's.

Tenderloin steak medium rare is my favorite, I also don't mind ribeye, though I find rump steak a bit tough.I wish international steak restaurants like the Gauchos, Meat Company, Terra firma etc opened in Mangalore and Bangalore. All of us could have eaten beef regularly and be very peaceful and happy.

Last week 18 years old Engineering student from Kerala was beaten and set on fire for not paying money to seniors in one of the famous colleges in Karnataka.Poor young man with 90% burns died in the hospital. Now one more attack. It is very unfortunate that both Central or State Govt have not done anything to prevent this DEVIL ACT.
My cousin brother doesn't eat egg plant(brinjol/badane),When asked about it,He said "Thanks to Ragging in College" . Senior students ordered him to go to their torture room. There they gave him 2 options.1.face non stop beating 2.Eating 5 boiled egg plants with salt. He prefered the safest one,Somehow he managed to eat it(ofcourse, vommited everything). That was the last time he had egg plant since 2005.

It is obvious that if the corporator had not intervened, the Senior students would have even killed their juniors for ragging. So the seniors should be tried for attempt to murder by the police with all sincerity without any compromise. If they are medical students they are unfit to be doctors as a doctors's profession is to try and save lives and not inflict injury and pain for their wild pleasure.

DUE TO RAGGING HOW MANY STUDENTS ARE SACRIFICING THEIR LIVES EVERY YEAR.IT IS SOCIAL MENACE WHICH NEED TO BE ERADICATED.NOBODY, INCLUDING EDUCATIONAL MANAGEMENT TAKES SERIOUS NOTE OF THE INHUMAN BARBARIC RAGGING IN MOST OF THE PROFESSIONAL COLLEGES IN KARNATAKA.EVEN THOUGH WE HAVE ENOUGH LAW TO PUNISH THE ERORRING STUDENTS,FEARING FOR INSTITUTION'S REPUTATION, MANAGEMENT NOT COMING FORWARD TO TAKE /REPORT TO HIGHER AUTHORITY IN MOST OF THE CASES.RAGGING SHOULD BE DEALT WITH SEVERALLY NOT LESS THAN LIFE SENTENCE, IF PROVED GUILTY.

It is strange that nobody is turning in the college campus to a whistle blower so that the menace of ragging stops for good.
A group of mature senior students should act like a silent protector of the fresher and new comers from ragging. These seniors should follow the fresher and inform the police if, in the name of ragging, they are treated inhumanly by the seniors either inside or outside the college campus.

    Preema,

People here are so blunt-headed here, that they credit the state government on raising the milk price (assuming that the increased amount will go the farmer) and curse the center for raising petrol price (assuming UPA will pocket the benefits).

Just keep watching these clowns. Obviously there will be an increase in Kasargod visits by these pseudos who support the anti-cow-slaughter bill.
