Mangalore, Apr 4: Two persons died in an accident that occured at Kolya, Ullal near here on Wednesday April 4 at around 1 pm.

The deceased have been identified as Hameed (40) and Razak (35), both residents of K C Nagar in Ullal. Razak was the owner of a bakery in the same area.

Hameed and Razak

Hameed was an auto rickshaw driver, and at the time of the accident, was taking Razak as his passenger from Thokottu to Talapady.

At Kollai, a speeding private bus plying from the opposite direction rammed into the auto rickshaw head-on, killing both of them.

Ullal police rushed to the spot.

Sources said that Hameed had married only four months ago.

MLA U T Khader expressed his condolence and said that he will ensure families of both victims get insurance.

Two precious lives lost due to the rash and speeding bus driver. Most probably the bus driver was under the influence of alcohol or some controlled substance. The auto rickshaw was completely mangled with the impact of the bus. May their soul rest in eternal peace and give comfort to the bereaved family. The driver should be punished severely and the deceased family should get the maximum compensation. The driver's licence should be revoked permanently and the bus permit should be cancelled forever. The bus owners tell these drivers to speed as they can make more trips and increase their income. Spoorthi Ullal, you did a wonderful job by taking the pictures from all over the place. It is said to see the picture of the auto.

May their soul rest in peace. May God give strength and courage to their families to bear irreparable loss. These types of accidents are happening in our place/country because of lack of rules/regulations/strictness. RTO Authorities, Traffic Police & concerned authorities are sleeping. If these authorities will take strict actions for the speeding city buses/truck/trippers/heavy vehicles' reckless drivings we cannot find such types of accidents on daily or frequently basis. My request on behalf of the people to the concerned authorities to instruct all types of vehicles mentioned above to drive in 40KM/ hour if they fail to adhere the rule charge them heavy fine for about RS 10000 and RTO authorities should put movable check points within 5-10 kms in highways.

Now a days, speeding buses have become the life takers.. First our Traffic Police Department should should setup some precautionary parameters. I have never seen any speed limits, Stop, Pedestrian crossing, Yield Sign Boards in Mangalore. After seeing so many tragedies on road people expect the law n order to take the appropriate steps.

This is absolutely tragic! I have read all the comments posted, definitely agree that the community and authorities need to come together. If you see danger, do not talk about, report it! However, you cannot blame the bus drivers per say as they are unfortunately under a considerable amount of pressure to reach destinations on time, whatever the cost might be! In my opinion the only way to resolve this issue is to reach the roots of the matter. This does not necessarily mean punishing the bus driver, Rather the BUS COMPANY, whether that be in the form of huge fines or operating bans or even better, issuing these penalties including seizing the buses for a period of time.

To improve driving standards in general, the driving test for everyone needs be more comprehensive where there should be no surprises if you fail your test more than once. The number of times I see vehicles overtaking on a blind corner is shocking. It is if people forget safety and morality when they are on the roads. No excuse for being late for work, plan ahead - Speed Kills! FACT. Additionally, vehicles should pass an annual safety test like in other countries e.g. ensuring that tire treads are not worn (1.6mm minimum).

Police should have an active role in seizing any vehicle (bike/car/bus/lorry/ETC) which do not comply. Speed camera's are required! None of these solutions will never happen over night, especially with corruption issues. Therefore, for this to be a success, there is real need for road safety education but more importantly, bringing the community together to push these ideas through parliament.

I get very scared to travel in Talapady route buses. All the buses just want to overtake and go...At times, I feel, I won't be able to reach home safely. Does the police take action if we call the control room about the reckless driving?

Mr. Khader was there to give his lip service. Has he done anything to stop the menace of private bus drivers on Mangalore Kasargode highway which passes through His Country and His community. These are people of opportunity to publicity to win next election.
Secondly, every one who travels on our roads moans about the behaviour of Bus and Tipper drivers but none of you dare to take a minute to call Police Control Room and inform them about these Drivers. But I do this all the time by calling 0824-222-0800 or I do stop at the Traffic East Station many times and inform Police officers about the situation. Police officers do appreciate our help to achieve their goal. Even when this accident was happening at Kolya I was calling Control room regarding bus route no:44c. Driver was driving to overtake another bus No:44c. So I request all bus passengers to call Control Room when your life is at RISK. Thanks to all who take action.

EVERY OTHER DAY WE READ HEAVY VEHICLES OR SPEEDING LIGHT MOTOR VEHICLES COLLIDING WITH SMALLER VEHICLES CAUSING LOSS OF HUMAN LIFE.

SHOULD WE CALL IT ACCIDENT OR INCIDENT CAUSED BY NEGLIGENCE OF THE DRIVER.

Accident: in general, an unplanned, unexpected, and undesigned (not purposefully caused) event which occurs suddenly and causes (1) injury or loss, (2) a decrease in value of the resources, or (3) an increase in liabilities.
Unfortunately 'ACCIDENT' does not have a clearly defined legal meaning. but an accident is the events which is not deliberately caused, and which is not inevitable.

My question to all readers is

if a driver (who is covered under personal automobile insurance for injury and losses due to negligence, Also sure that he is not going to get injured or hurt) willfully drives the vehicle into a smaller vehilcle in wrong direction, in order to scare the driver of the smaller vehicle (or sometimes overconfident that he has got control of the vehicle), so that he gets preference to drive on his will, to save few minutes to reaching his destination, resulting injury or loss of life in few occasion.

Should we call it accident or an WILLFULY CREATED INCIDENT.

In my opinion in India if you want official licence to KILL, then become get a Heavy Motor Vechicle Driving Licence.

Owners of these heavy vechicles, RTO's click photos and give speeches in so called road safety functions or drive. They advise the two wheeler drivers or LMV drivers. They do little to control these monster drivers and also buckle under the pressure of bus drivers union (blackmail authorities by calling strike) while action taken against some driver.

CANCELLING LICENCE OF ANY DRIVER IS NO USE, AS OBTAINING AS MANY AS DRIVING LICENCE FOR SINGLE PERSON IS VERY VERY SIMPLE IN INDIA.

BOTTOM LINE THERE IS NO VALUE FOR HUMAN LIFE IN INDIA.

Put the driver of the bus behind bars so that he never ever comes out of the prison. The NH from Mangalore to Kasargod is like a race track and no doubt this kind of accidents do happen everyday. Is there a solution to this? Yes,make it mandatory to install speed governors irrespective of the vehicle. Thats the only way you can curb these heartless drivers. Will this ever happen?????????????????? Wait and watch!!!

Every time I travel through this highway(which in no way looks like one)I always have a prayer on my lips. Most of the private bus drivers drive like maniacs whose only aim is to overtake on these narrow roads even though there is a vehicle coming from the opposite direction. May the almighty lord give strength to the families og the deceased.

Driver's Licence & Bus permit both are to be ceased and cancelled forever if this kind of accident happens because both are responsible for this. Owners insist drivers to overspeed and overtake the bus to increase the collection. Then only both owner & driver alert to prevent accidents.
