Bangalore International Airport to be Named After Kempegowda

Bangalore International Airport to be Named After Kempegowda

From Our Special Correspondent
Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore

Bangalore, Apr 6: Finally, the Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL) will be named after the founder of the garden city Kempe Gowda.

The Union Civil Aviation Ministry has accepted Karnataka’s proposal for naming the BIAL after the illustrious founder of Bangalore.

Unfortunately, the gardens are fast depleting and the city is no longer then pensioner’s paradise that it was known in the not too distant past. With the city’s fame for information technology industries and also the large number of professional educational institutions, Bangalore has now come to be known as India’s knowledge capital.

Civil Avitaion Minister Ajit Singh has informed External AffairsMinister S M Krishna that the proposal to name BIAL after Kempegowda has been accepted by the ministry.

Krishna had sent a proposal to Civil Aviation ministry that the BIAL be named as Kempegowda International Airport.

Similar demands were made soon after the airport become operational and there were suggestions that it be named after 12th century social reformer Basaveswara.

However, the Centre had decided to retain the first green field airport built in joint venture in the city as Bengaluru International Airport.

It would now be renamed as Kempegowda International Airport.

I fully agree with you Sayed. This is another way to waste public funds in printing, official papers, etc, etc.

BANGALORE should be the best suitable name.

Politics, a limit in INDIA... shameful that our ministers & it's followers have no better job than this....

Before the Airport Becomes Operational, It was proposed to give the name of Airport as Tippu Sulthan International Airport, as the airport stands in a place where Tippu Sulthan was born and He was the first indian king to fight against British and also a great martyr in indian history, but why this BJP goons will remember that, Kempegowda neither fought against british, nor He was a Martyr, Along with that he was a great able leader. Dont understand why this Politics. On One hand BJP supports Hindu Mrtyrs not muslims Martyrs. Useles BJP goons, Dinesh Poojary is another mental Minded person who is good to speak only venoms and support this BJP goons.

    @Pastor E.W.Frank,Udupi
This has reference to your comment on naming Mangalore International Airport as Tippu Sultan Internaional Airport.
I wish to inform you that there is a great /apt name for naming Mangalore Airport. It is ULLAL SRINIVAS MALLYA who is regarded as father of Modern Dakshina Kannada Dist(Udupi/Mangalore)
He is a three time MP from Udupi constituency and worked closely with Mahatma Gandhiji/Pandit Jawaharlala Nehru as freedom fighter and imprissioned several times. His main contributions to DK dist are NH 17,KREC,Suratkal)(now NITK)Mangalore Airport,Mangalore-Hassan-Bangalore railway line,Nethravathi bride(Ullal bridge)New Mangalpre Port,Town hall,Mangalore,Circuit house,All India Radio Station,Mangalore.Nobody has done what he has contributed to DK Dist. Therefore it will be fitting tribute to Late Ulla Srinivas Mallya to name him after Mangalore International Airport,Mangalore.(USMIA)There cant be another name to name Mangalore International Airport. This will happen.

New name is nothing but identity issue How one wants to associated with. Similarly , when people migrate to Canada change their names from Mohd to Robert, Guruginder to Laura. I never changed my name. My orginal name is Jerry Moras and people what is your Indian name ? Please think I must be Rama or Krishna or Kempe Gauda. Question is does name matter ? Is it issue of branding ? Or promoting someone ? Name is given to just to identify cities or people. Just think aloud : think about if there was name of people on earth for 7 billion people what would have happened ? Hence, don’t go deep into it renaming something gets you better service.

It should be Shahid Tippu Sultan International Airport like Chatrapati Shivaji international airport unlike Tippu Sulthan dedicated his life to fighting against British.. He also born in Devanahalli… Why this partiality with Tippu Sultan… I think only because he grabbed land from upper cast land lords and distributed among lower cast people

Just keep Mangalore Airport or bajpe airport. It is a madness to keep airports, roads gardens after somebody. politics will surely come up.Congress has been successful having given many projects after its gone leaders such as Rajiv, Indira, Nehru etc. now BJP will surely begin once its leaders are dead such Vajapee, Modi, LK Advani etc. instead of keeping politicians name why not keep some soldiers names who died for us while protecting us(nation)? I am sure JD(U) will wait HD Kumarswamy and its father(mannina maga former PM. name forgotten)to die. so that some roads and airport can be named after them. hehehe. when we Indians will change? lets stop immortalizing these politicians. real heroes are those who die for us.

Immediately rename all airports of Karnataka with the name of Karnataka people who contributed to our state in various fields.

Otherwise soon we will have Rahul Gandhi Airport, Sonia Gandhi Airport, Priyanka Air Terminal, Robert Airport etc...etc..

I request state Govt to take steps to rename Mangalore, Mysore, Hubli and Belgaum Airports as early as possible. Our airports should not have dirty rogues names..

Jai Karnataka, Jai Bharath.. Jai all airports..

Rather keeping Veerappa Moily/Oscar fernandis/Janardhan poojary name one day, keep Mr Srinivas Mallys name. He is brain behind setting up Mangalore Airport in 1950. Its a great respect n tribute to the Tulunadu legendary.Orelse its better to keep the name as TULUNADU INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. In the umbrella of Tulunadu all Undivided DK people are one. I hope nobody oppose this move. Long live TULUNADU...

    Dear Daiji World news:

I think for Mangalore International Air Port, the fitting name may be "TIPPU SULTAN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT"(TSIA)Because there is Sultan Battery and many other caves and old ports all over Managalore and Udupi districts, and also a good fighter against British till his last breath. A Hero and a Great Defender of India.

I can recollect few proceedings on this.

    * This is a long pending demand from few years.

    * BJP Govt has sent this proposal to Central Govt and has been exerting constant pressure from last 3 years.

    * Approximately a month before, Vokkaliga Sangha met SM Krishna in Bangalore and demanded the airport be named KEMPEGOWDA AIRPORT.

Thanks to SM Krishna for considering the request from state Govt and people. This is what we expect from central ministers. Listen to people and work for people.

Now the next immediate thing required is Mangalore Airport be named "ULLALA ABBAKKA RANI INETRNATIONAL AIRPORT".

Thank God for little mercies....Just imagine naming it after Bangarappa,Dharam Singh,Deve Gowda,Yeddiyurappa,Shobha,Siddaramaiah,Rajkumar etc. The name Kempegowda does not sound good for an International Airport. The Majestic bus stand or a big autorichshaw stand could probably be named " Kempegowda Bus Nildanha " or " Kempegowda Richshaw nildanha ".The name should blend with the stature and time of the person.
