Update - 10.20 am

Mangalore, Apr 7: In new information coming in regarding the accident at Kottara on Saturday April 7 that killed 18 cattle, it is now confirmed that one person was injured and two managed to escape from the spot.

Sources said that Bajrang Dal activists, on receiving prior information on the cattle trafficking, chased the vehicle from Panambur, and forcibly stopped it at Kottara. The driver of the vehicle, in a bid to escape, took reverse and hit a mound of mud on the road side and lost control, resulting in the vehicle turning over.

Two of three people in it managed to escape, while the injured man remained inside.

Initial report

As many as 18 cattle were killed and two persons injured after a vehicle transporting the cattle overturned at Kottara here on Saturday April 7.

It is said that the cattle were being illegally taken from Jokatte to Central Market.

Sources said that the vehicle was being chased by Bajrang Dal activists, and turned turtle after the driver lost control due to high speed.

It may be recalled that on April 5, a group of Bajrang Dal activists had stopped a vehicle carrying cattle. The persons involved in it had fled the place and the cattle were handed over to the police.

In the name of saving these cattle's, Bajrangdal has caused this accident by chasing this vehicle, resulting in the death of 18 cattle and injuring the 3 persons.

Dear Bajrangdal activists are you not human. Dont you have any concern for human lives. You could have killed these people from your stupid so called save cattle movement ( or whatever you call it). Thank God these people are still alive at this moment.

Do you rate these cattle more than human beings?

Shame you Bajrangdal activists. If you cannot give life to a human, please do not try to take it.

The police have to arrest who sell this cows/cattle, instead of arresting those who supply. Then only this Bajarang dal or those who against for these type of activities will know, who is real culprits are? Its not the Muslims sell but surely its others religion people sell these cattle to kill. Here blame simply cums on Muslims since they kill the cattle and sell beef.

Yes I condemned inhuman transportation of animals because it is against my religion and also law of land.
At the same time I am questioning the very incidents itself because they claim people ran away which appears to be illogical.
In yesterday's case it is faster to run in their vehicle rather than running after abandoning vehicle.
And today it is hard to beieve that BD could not chase people from a overturned vehicle.

How will these animal Gods will manage powerful men and women if these Gods cannot cannot protect themselves. Ridiculous.

The prices of meat such as chicken/lamb, beef, pork in the market has been skyrocketed due to which unreachable to a common man. The government should not waste time in making free flow of meat in the market. Withdraw permits to cow slaughter houses and make free so that any person can slaughter the cattle anywhere, anytime, place irrespective of time and space and see the results, the beef prices will be so cheap and immediately prices other meat such as chicken, lamb and pork will fall instantly.

Why illegal is going on because there are restrictions. Remove restrictions so that illegal transportations or illegal slaughters will never happen whatsoever. I sincerely urge Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda to remove permit systems for cow slaughter houses with immediate effect.

How BD decides which vehicle is transporting cattle legally and which one is doing it illegally. Till date Govt is not sure as what is illegal, consumption of beef, slaughter of cattle or transporting of cattle! If consumption of beef has not been banned through a Law, it means abattoirs can function and if the abattoirs have to function, then, there should be supply of cattle. So on what basis do the BD activists decide that a particular consignment is illegal?

Every time a vehicle is chased, it does not mean it is illegal cattle transportation because at time these persons speed away just to escape from the BD activists who have the history of beating them and robbing them off. Do these persons transporting cattle need to display the licence or permit to the BD activists?

The proposed Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Bill 2010 infringes on fundamental rights of the citizens and it is against the rulings of the court. The bill also affects scores of people’s lives and lacks legislative competence. The Bill goes not only against Muslims, Christians, Dalits and tribal people, but also against the livelihood of a huge population of Hindus who form the farmers’ community and possess legitimate rights over their livestock.

If it serves anything, it’s communalism. As long as they are in a farmer’s cowshed, the animals have a good life. Before old age sets in, farmers sell them to butchers to earn some money to buy another calf. So from a farmer’s point of view, even those who do not eat meat themselves, the prospect of selling the cattle that has lived its life and served its purpose is a big economic relief.

So even vegetarian farmers who raise cattle are glad that there is a meat market. The very idea of such a bill also shows that the ruling class of BJP which basically consists of cultural elites from the Brahmin and Brahminised upper castes who don’t like to get their hands dirty doing manual labour, hardly know anything about the rural economy.

I condemn the inhuman method of transportation of cattle. The culprits should be punished as per the law. However there is some missing link in the whole episode.

Yesterday it was reported all people managed to escape after abandoning the vehicle. Today it is being reported that two people managed to escape that too from a overturned vehicle.

Definately they will have at least some minor injuries still they managed to escape desite being chased by BD.

Who gave the power to Bajrang Dal activists to start chasing the tempo driver. Can everyone start taking laws into their own hands to punish the guilty? I know many guys who are doing illegal business from all the religions and is it right on my part to arrange a group of activists to thrash these culprits.

The entire situation created by BD is completely illegal and should be condemned. Suppose the same accident has resulted in loss of humans what could have happened? Any individual who is taking law into their own hands is criminal and not even fit in the civil society.

Nature is like that..there are checks and balances...If old cattles are left sine die farmer will be in loss. Another thing is if beef banned, there could be a migration to other food like veg or meat which will cost again more..India is third largest Beef exporter behind Aust and Brazil..How could balance the Balance of Payment which may hit beef export.

It is high time to ban Militant Org like Bajarangis who are taking law in to their own hand. If paid HAFTA, then they will escort the cattle vehicle safely until destination. Police in Mangalore in this particular issue watching mouse and cat play..

Our Karnataka Govt lost completely failed to maintain law and order as private members are controlling our state and ruling party is sleeping as they are scared of coming elections which depends on RSS, BD, VHP and Rame sene. It is shame and pity on all of us as this is the rule of Goons.

I think all the BJP Leaders has to be replaced by our Bajrang Dal friends, b'cos these are the one's who are really working hard & are taking pain for the cause of Hindhutva.

PSEUDO HINDU PARTY BJP has only made use of Hindhutva but never worked towards it. They just betrayed Pramod Muthalik & Mahendra Kumar.

The PSEUDO HINDU PARTY BJP, will never ever try to make the dream of all Hindus come true, regarding banning of Cow slaughter.

Now they have lost their strong fort in coastal belt Udupi-Chikmagalur, the BJP High Command is worried about the forthcoming election for Lok-Sabha.

There had been strong uphold regarding cow slaughter to be stopped during 1999-2001, during the period of Atal Bihari Vajpayee's Prime Minister Office.

And they were about to implement it. But because Chandra Babu Naidu the then Chief Minister of Andhra gave a threat that he will withdraw the support from NDA, Atal Bihari Vajpayee did not implement it. This clearly shows that the PSEUDO HINDU PARTY BJP wants vote and not the GOHU MATHA.

Chandra Babu Naidu was scared that he may loose Minority Votes & also Scheduled Caste & Scheduled Tribes votes (Who eat Beef b'cos of low cost) in the state election for Legislative Assembly MLA as well as Central election for Lok-sabha, which was in May 2004.

PSEUDO HINDU PARTY BJP is just fooling the people of India by bringing these kinds of confusion and polarizing the Hindu Vote to BJP.

They never did what they said. They told they will build SRI RAAM MANDIR. But they did not even have the basic courtesy to remember SRI RAAM, while enjoying power in the center.

So till now in the history of RSS, Jan Sangh, BJP they have only brought confusion in the minds of the people of India and nothing else.

If the govt. is keeping quite when such things are happening continues, this clearly indicates state govt. is supporting these stupid Bajrangdals and are also equally responsibly for this like of crime. If Bajrangadals had got the info about transferring the cattle's their first duty is to inform the police and its the duty of the police to chase the vehicle if it was illegal. Were did these Bajrangdals get the degree to act like police person. The State Govt. should take against these kind of organisation... BD memebers, if you guys have so much affection towards cows, why don't you feed cows at your home? I have never seen a single bajarangi taking care of a cow in his home. One thing is sure that even if you ban cow slaughtering, you can't stop people eating beef. because beef is cheaper, healthy and middle class families can't afford mutton regularly.

I, being a muslim as well as a human strongly condemn this kind of inhuman cattle transportation. Even if i don't get beef to eat, i don't mind. All muslim brothers, please check the sources from where we are getting beef. if it's stolen, then it would be haraam for us.

Bajrangdal responsible for this Gohathya. All these cattle were not suitable for milking so the owners sold these Gomatha for slaughtering. Selling God to make money, on the other hand want to bring anti slaugter bill?

Punish both Illegal cattle transporters as well as BD members. I don't understand why the hell BD have to chase them. has our Government gave the authority to do them so??

I appreciate Mr. Rahim, udupi and praveen mlore for their sensible comments. Cruelty against animals need to be stopped. Meanwhile, my request to BD is, please do not chase the vehicles carrying cattles. Find some other way of stopping the vehicles. Because, already these illegal activity, the cattle are jam packed. Some cattles might have died in the process of chasing itself. Through the network of your units it is possible to stop these vehicles without actually chasing them down. By chasing with hgh speed your putting their lives to risk, Your whole purpose of saving cattle will not serve then.

I'm in favor of banning cow slaughter. One should respect Hindu belief. Hindu brothers will get same feeling and agony while the issue of cow sluaghter pops up, just like chirstians or muslims if someone insulted christian or muslim Gods or hurted religious feeling.

I bet no one will die due to hunger if they don't get cow meat to eat.

    wake up congress.

What is the purpose of the chase done by BD activists that they had to flee the site once the mishap took place?

Why they take-up the task themselves, is it because their level of moral is very high or they are paid for moral policing?

It’s quite evident that their moral level of these BD activists is actually below the basic responsibility level, if they were really moral policing in concern to the cattle’s which were illegally transported they would have stayed there and done the required moral activities for the cattle’s at least. Instead they fled and SRS activists have done the mortality part here, they took the person who was injured to hospital and arranged for the veterinary doctor for the cattle’s.

If they have got a tip on illegal cattle transport, then why take law in hand why not forward the same to police, for instant any illegal or assumed wrong act why not forward the tip to the police. Are the BD activists underestimating the police?

It only seems like they are interested in destructive activities rather than their so called upholding of the principles, in this case I guess the purpose was only to catch hold of the people involved and trash them, which didn’t materialize here, Seems like they are paid for the job, networking to trash, harass people.

Who gave them the right to chase without even confirming the authenticity? The government also does nothing about it these BD activists are becoming goons in the shield of moral policing in Mangalore, still the purpose of the chase done by BD activists remains undisclosed.

The entire fault lies with Bajranag Dal cowards. They should have alerted the Police instead of taking law into their hands. They ran away because they do not have the guts to face the reality. This can happen only in our State. Very sad indeed. BJP should learn lesson from states like UP.

BD should be more proactive in addressing social problems like,

    1. Dowry Deaths
    2. Female Infanticides
    3. Child Marriages

rather than going behind these animals.

Do these people have more power than the government. Why the government is not taking any action against all these people. Does this means once you are elected, release your power to your party so that they can do as they wish.

it is high time india has high tech slaughter houses and provisions for animals which includes all cattle, pigs and chicken also. slaughtering in religious functions also is cruelty. it is not possible to expect whole population to become vegetarian, we can only make things more humane for the animals.

This is all because of the clandistine cattle and beef trade. If you ban, you are not doing any good but you are harming these cattles...As free transportation is not allowed, people will resort to other means to transport these cattles. As a result, in one vehicle one could load as many as heads. Its a trade which shall thrive and prosper on illegal means by paying hefty haftas to the authorities. Proper licensing and permit and proper classification shall avoid these mishaps and conflicts...But no one could stop or eradicate it completely....
