Veerappan's Wife Calls Shankar Bidari a Rapist

Bangalore, Apr 7 (Agencies) : Years after Veerappan’s death, his wife Muthulakshmi surfaced and sought a CBI probe into alleged atrocities committed by a Special Task Force on tribals, especially tribal women in its hunt for the forest brigand. Muthulakshmi had till now been enmeshed in a number of legal battles.

Addressing a press conference in Bangalore, Muthulakshmi lashed out at former Karnataka DGP and IG Shankar Bidari calling him a rapist. She also wanted those held guilty by a Human Rights Commission report punished.

Muthulakshmi described Bidari, who was then Deputy Commander of the Special Task Force constituted to nab Veerappan, as “an inhuman person with no concern for women whatsoever”. She held him responsible for rapes and torture of many tribal women.

She recollected alleged atrocities committed by the STF under Shankar Bidari against tribal women including rape and administering electric shocks and said “that the very reason we did not speak was the fear of losing our lives.”

Muthulakshmi has gone to court against films being made on Veerappan in Kannada and Tamil and wants the projects scrapped as they ‘violated’ human rights. Two films — “Attahasa” in Kannada and Tamil “Vanyudham”, are being made by MR Ramesh, a Bangalore resident.

According to Muthulakshmi, she had filed a petition in Chennai High Court seeking a stay on the film. The plea is still pending hearing. “The person has no right to make a film about the personal life of my late husband or me. It violates human rights,” she alleged.

On April 25, 2011, Muthulakshmi was handed over to Tamil Nadu Police in connection with a case pending against her in Erode district after being released from Bangalore Central Prison at Parappana Agrahara following her acquittal in all five cases against her in Karnataka.

Why should media give her importance to these allegations? It is a well known tactic adopted by naxals and bandits to level charges of human rights violation.
While the nasals and bandits don't follow any of the rules of the land, why they are worried about those rights?
Editor: please ask this lady, whether her husband followed any human rights protocols when he killed and urinated on the body of Police Inspector Srinivas?

While I do not wish to take any side in this case, we should realise one thing - while Veerappan did not follow the law of the land, the police have to honour the law of the land for which they have taken the vow to uphold. There are practical difficulties in carrying out their duties, sometimes risking their lives but no one who has promised to uphold the rule of the land can take the law and order in his own hand. Police can not rape tribal women to extract information!!! Do you think, if they gave information, they would have lived?

Muthulakshmi is very lucky that she is still alive.Being Veerappan's wife, she was a witness & partner to all his devil acts. Why Muthulakshmi is not talking about 250 police men and civilans brutatlly killed by Veerappan ? Why she is not talking about more than 1000 elephants killed during his rule in forest? Why she is not talking about Kannada film actor Dr.Raj Kumar's kidnap which gave headache to Government for 100 dyas ?

That time everyone was blaming police and Government for not killing Veerappan & gang. Now this stupid lady has been hailed as a Godess..and Shankar Bidari..a Rapist ! You can't give bread & butter to criminals and get information. To get vital information some harsh,3rd degree method must be applied.Yes..Mr.Bidari used little harsh method..But considering the case..My opinion is that Bidari made a mistake.Muthulakshmi should have been encountered like Veerappan's brother. No one would have opened their mouth.

Shankar Bidari was born in a poor family. After SSLC,he went to Mumbai and did some work in News Paper in Delivery section. Then he came to Bangalore, part time work, part time college..like that he completed BA degree. From there with hard work he passed IPS ! Rest is history. His son is IPS officer and daughter is IAS officer. THIS IS SHANKAR BIDARI..WHO IS MUTHULAKSHMI ?

Yes Madam, If you wish, you can stand for elections also and install a statue of your Late husband in your constituency, i will not be surprised. It is the kindheartedness of our large overdosed democracy that you and your late husband known to us as the most brutal Bandit of all times are allowed to thrive and hold press conferences. At the time of peak savagery of your late husband, we all needed scapegoat officers to take up the job who all else feared, some were even transferred there as punishment. Now that your own Tamil nationalists have done with your late husband, we all are so ungrateful so as to term our officers as oppressors, Gaddafi and Saddam. No wonder seldom is a hero born in this ungrateful democracy now a days.
