US, Bangladesh to Hold Security Talks

Dhaka, Apr 7 (IANS): The US and Bangladesh will hold a dialogue April 19 here on security challenges facing the two countries and the region at large, Xinhua reported.

US Under Secretary for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman, who came to Bangladesh for a two-day visit Thursday, said US Assistant Secretary for Political and Military Affairs Andrew Shapiro will arrive in the capital April 19 for the dialogue.

"It's a transparent dialogue. We want to work together on all of the security challenges that we face here through this region and the world," Sherman said Friday after an hour-long meeting with Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dipu Moni.

Asked if Washington wants to deploy more US military in Bangladesh for regional security, Sherman said the US has "no plan now to do so".

Dipu Moni said the two countries could form a joint commission to conduct dialogues on a regular basis to deal with the entire gamut of bilateral relations.
