Mangalore, Apr 8: In a case that exposes the negligence of those who run the city, an auto rickshaw driver was critically injured when he rammed into an garbage truck belonging to the Mangalore City Corporation.

The incident occured at Nagori junction here on Saturday April 7 at around 11.30 pm.

The garbage truck was parked on the road in the dark, without lights, parking indicator or even a number plate. The street light at the spot was not switched on either. The auto rickshaw driver thus failed to notice the truck in the darkness and rammed into it.

The auto driver sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a hospital. His identity is yet to be ascertained.

A large crowd gathered at the spot. Kankanady rural police also arrived.

It reminds me an European who settled in Bangalore gave one inteveiw to Gulf News Friday Magazin!
In US we need to Drive Right side of the Road(Lafte Hand Drive) and in Europe Left Side of hte Road (Right Hand Drive)
But in India you must drive Middle of the Road.
Now we can see in India specially in Mangalore MCC is Parking its Vehicles in Middle of the Road!
Only God can Protect our Mangalore Kudala.

Why this MCC not follow the rules of the RTO? Why no number plate? why no idicator? why no sign plate/power sticker? Why no street light? Why no without danger, kerb(edge) finished good asphalt road? why no young educated representative as mayor, deputy mayor, officials, politicians? Why media not shown auto driver photo? Auto rickshaw headlight level is lesser than truck hieght. Sure now there is much improvement comparing before since few years in mangalore by State Govt (CM DVS)but it takes some time to fill up earlier commitments which not fullfilled by earlier govt. DVS must give some more priority to basic facilities like good Road/water/drainage system/street light.

I hope the rickshaw driver will get well soon. I don’t understand in which era our people live in our country. I'm not the one of those who live in foreign country and blame everything at back home but, I have to mention The City Corporation is the one responsible for this, their truck doesn’t have basic requirements of a vehicle like, break light, parking light, night reflector and NUMBER PLATE!. There is no mistake by auto driver it seems, Also the street light which comes under city corporation is not turned on as per Daijiworld!, What’s happening in our beloved "Kudla"?

RTO in Mangalore is a department of Karnatka Government to make money either by hook or crook. None of the officers in this office dosnt aware of traffic rules or becomes blind whenever the matter of traffic rules and arises.
Following are the facts anyone can notice at RTO Mangalore.

Vehicle inspections can be done without the presence of the vehicle

Issuing bus permits with particular seating and standing capacity but not interested in monitoring the actual counts of passengers travelling at a trip. there will be at least 80 passengers inside the bus even the permitted one is 42 2.

No park lights , brake lights or indicator lights in 95% of the vehicles either transport or private.

No actions against the drivers who operates public transport without Licence and badge .

doesn't we need a better system to overcome these problems ?

I request Daiji to investigate further and find the Owner of this Truck, MCC does not own all the Garbage trucks, just a few of them. Most of the trucks are on lease from private owners. A few years back when congress was ruling the MCC most of the trucks were leased from Mr. P. M. Castelino, a former corporator of Congress. If it is a MCC truck then it needs to be in the MCC building parking or at the dump yard not in front of someone's house at the night.
One u find the owner please do report the finding on Daijiworld. It will be for a good cause, which will lead all truck owners to park in a safe place instead of the main road.

    @ Ronnie,K-
When from opposite side halogen headlights blind you, the chances of auto driver noticing a vehicle infront of him is almost zeero, with no indicators or reflectors.
Come to Mangalore & drive at night you will find how difficult it is driving in city.
My advice to all auto drivers wear Yellow(no pun intended) glasses which filter out all this pollution & it highlights even darker objects with minimum lights of your own.
