Mangalore: Special Children Bloom at Saanidhya's Vision-2012

Mangalore, Apr 8: It was a heartening sight as scores of mentally challenged children came together on a stage and showcased their hidden talents, winning the hearts of the audience with their performances.

The occasion was 'Saanidhya Utsav', a cultural programme organized as part of 'Vision-2012', an art and craft exhibition organized by Saanidhya Residential School and Training Centre, Shaktinagar. The programme was inaugurated on Sunday April 8 at Kadri Park at 5.30 pm by releasing balloons in to the air.

'Vision-2012', featuring items prepared by the Saanidhya inmates, was inaugurated at Kadri Park on Saturday April 7.

The programme began with a formal stage programme. Suresh, manger, Indian Overseas Bank, Vijaynath Vittal Shetty, Bhootanatheshwara temple chief organiser, Joseph Stephen Pinto, manager, Immanuel Constructions Pvt Ltd, Mohammed Kunhi, chairman, Yenepoya Group and Prabha Kudva, trustee, Gandhinagar Park were the chief guests of the evening.

Sethu Madhav Rao Pangal, retired professor, NITK was felicitated on the occasion. Vasanth Shetty and Mahabala Maarla were also present on the dais.

Vijaynath Shetty in his address said that he was proud of Saanidhya for its works. He also expressed his interest towards conducting a sports meet for the mentally challenged children.

Joseph Pinto said that Vasanth Shetty 'is really a god's gift' as he is doing such wonderful work and has set a good example for society to follow. He also urged the people to join hands with Shetty in his social work.

Vasanth Shetty welcomed and Maarla proposed the vote of thanks. Different items prepared by the mentally challenged students of Saanidhya were exhibited and were available on sale.

    Very good pictures by Brijesh Garodi. If there were captions it would have been wonderful as we would have come to know who is who. The organizers of SAANIDHYA of Vision-2012 did a good and effortless job to make the event a successful one.This is a boost to the mentally challenged children. The management and office bearers are doing a wonderful job.
