Dubai: A 'Sliver Screen' in Konkani Play 'Aami Nathlyaa Vellar'

Daijiworld Media Network - Dubai

Dubai, Apr 9: For the first time in Dubai, a Konkani play will have one scene shot like a brief telefilm and presented on a big screen during the play 'Aami Nathlyaa Vellar' to be staged by Daiji Dubai, a forum of Konkani writers in the UAE.

"This is a kind of innovation in Konkani, as we have seen such techniques in Tulu and Kannada stage plays. One full scene we shot at a location, and it will be screened as part of our Konkani play," said Dayan D'Souza, who is directing this play.

The play will be staged at Shiekh Rashid Auditorium of Indian High School, as part of Daiji Dubai forum's 13th anniversary on Friday April 13.

The event will start at 6 pm.

"The play is enacted by amateur artistes who are spending valuable time out of their  busy work schedules and family commitments. But our preparation is such that we are confident of meeting the expectations of the audience on Friday April 13, and giving them their money's worth," he added.

"This play is based on a true story, and a very strong social message will be the highlight of this play. The thrilling story with its twists and suspense will keep the audience engaged till the last minute. Clean comedy is another highlight of the play. Such plays are very rarely staged here, and though it was a tough challenge, we are getting ready to entertain the Konkani language and theatre lovers," said Dayan, who, apart from directing, is playing a key role in the play.

The scene is about 15 minutes in duration, shot at an undisclosed location under the direction of Ashwath Samuel, a dynamic and creative young editor who has plenty of experience in working at professional levels.

"The 10-hour long shooting for one scene has really given us new experience, and a lot to learn in this field. Our intention is to give the best to our audience even as we try something new." said Dayan, who feels the new experiment would be liked by the audience.

"Apart from this new technique, there will be innovative and attractive stage settings for the play. Dubai's well-known Chidananda Poojary is creating the stage," he said.

As countdown begins for the event, 80 percent of the tickets have already been sold out, and organizers are expecting a sellout show.

Good effort. Keep it up. This reminds me the drama 'Kuwait Sodun Vetana' played in Kuwait which had screen shots on screen. They really work to catch the audience sentiments. Wish you all the best.
