Pakistani Leader Poisoned to Death

Islamabad, Apr 9 (IANS): The death of a Pakistani provincial leader took a sinister turn when a medical examination revealed that he was killed by poisoning, a media report said Monday.

Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) Chief Basheer Khan Qureshi died Friday in Sakrand town in Sindh province.

The initial medical report revealed that he had died of poisoning and not medical reasons, reported Dawn.

Qureshi suffered a cardiac arrest due to the ingestion of some poisonous food, said sources.

The Sindhi nationalist leader was laid to rest Saturday.

His party had rejected cardiac arrest as the cause of death and demanded a thorough investigation.

Party leader Niaz Kalani claimed that Qureshi had been eliminated "scientifically by those who could not stomach the nationalist leader's popularity which was demonstrated during a rally in Karachi on March 23".
