Russian Teens to Get Award for Saving Teacher

Moscow, Apr 9 (IANS/RIA Novosti): Two teenaged boys in Russia will receive a state award for rescuing a woman teacher drowning in a river, officials said Monday.

The incident took place in the far eastern Kamchatka region in March, the regional government said.

Svetlana Nayanova, a primary school teacher, had fallen through the ice when she went down to the river to get some water. Her cries for help were heard by two teenagers, Sergey and Alexey Yaganov, who were driving a snowmobile along the river.

The boys rushed to help her, and managed to pull the teacher out of the water.

The award will commend the boys for audacity and selflessness in saving a life, the government said.
