Mangalore, Apr 9: A police sub-inspector has been accused of slapping a constable following an argument here on Monday April 9.

SI of city armed reserved police (CARP) Vittal Shinde is said to have hit police constable Basavaraj at the CARP office. He later tricked the media and escaped from the police station, leaving the reporters quite astonished.

It is said that Basavaraj was on medical leave, and on his return, submitted his medical claims to the SI, who was supposed to pass on a report to the police commissioner. However, Shinde is said to have not done so, and an argument ensued between the two, leading Shinde to allegedly slap Basavaraj. The incident occured at around 3 pm.

Shinde and Basavaraj both went to Pandeshwar police station to lodge complaints and clarify the matter, but when the media arrived, Shinde went into hiding in another building in the premises and refused to come out. Basavaraj sat inside the police station.

The media waited for a while with the eyes keenly on the building, waiting for the SI to come out, but there were no signs of him. Some of the policemen tried to brush off the matter saying that nothing had happened.

But even as the media waited, a man dressed in plain clothes came out of the building through a rear door with a bucket in his hand, and went over to another man waiting on a bike, and both of them rode away in an instant. It was SI Shinde, who had changed from his uniform to plain clothes inside the building, and to avoid suspicion had come out with a bucket like a worker, before fleeing the place!

It is uncertain whether either of them managed to lodge complaints, as the police remained tight-lipped on the matter.

Speaking to Daijiworld, deputy commissioner of police Para Shetty said that he was unaware of any such incident. "It is because of the media that I have come to know about it," he said, promising to take action against the guilty.

He said that there was shortage of staff in CARP, and Basavaraj was constantly on leave. "His salary was withheld because of his habit of taking frequent leaves, and that must have provoked a fight," he added.

Vittal Shinde you are completely wrong in slapping Basavraj. You cannot take the laws in your hands. If you are not guilty then why the hell you gave a slip to the waiting media. Deputy Police Commissioner Para Shetty, please take action and give justice to Basavaraj. This kind of behavior will tarnish the image of the Mangalore police.

In Karnataka, considerable of lower rank police personnel had scarified their lives due to the higher rank police officer's inhuman treatment even though victims are in medical observation.Police language,Police behavior and police 'DARPA' are of higher police officers passed to to generation next.Due to the fact common man does not befriend with police personnel.

ABDUL RAHIMAN INFANT, IG/DGP of Karnataka look in to the matter and need to bring about human/social touch with in so that together with public,Police may find it easy to perform day to day duties. However, functioning of the police of 90s had completely changed but yet not enough has been done in this direction.
