Udupi, Apr 10: “96 percent of the citizens residing in town limits paid their taxes and assisted in developmental works,” said MLA Raghupati Bhat.

Addressing media persons on the planned development work for 2012–13 at a press meet held here on Monday April 9, he said that the water connections to consumers in city limits are functioning efficiently.

“In peak summer, the people have to sensibly utilize municipal water as the stock in the reservoir is getting depleted at the rate of 5 cm per day.  A major overhead tank is under construction at Doddanagudde, here," he said.

"The development of the Town Hall is under way at a cost of Rs 4 crore. The building will have a capacity of 850 seats and will be inaugurated in May by the chief minister. State funds of Rs 1 crore have been released to develop Bhujanga Park, which will be equipped with an open air theatre and a lawn," he said.

"The state has given the final nod to begin the tendering process to construct Malpe-Padukare bridge at a cost of Rs 700 crore. The work on construction of the road from Kalsanka to Gundibail at a cost of Rs 8 crore will begin after state approval, and the road from Malpe Citizen Circle to Beach will be converted into four lanes.” added Bhat.

"The foundation stone has been already laid to construct a fish market at a cost of Rs 2 crore. The market will have a capacity to accomodate 60 vendors, and will have rest rooms for the fisherwomen. State funds of Rs 30 crore have been released by the chief minister under small and medium development programmes,” he added.

Town councilor Kiran Kumar, Bharati Chandrashekar, Mohan Upadhyaya, and Ravi Amin were present at the press meet.

The honorable elected representatives make public statements for the general consumption, unfortunately the projects will be put into action at the convenience of men in power!
For instance, there was a proposal a couple of years back to establish an Agriculture College in Brahmavara and even the date to laying the foundation stone has been announced but no news on its functioning even from the academic year 2012-13. Likewise, the establishment of PG Centre of Mangalore University in Udupi district being proposed from the responsible administrators and the politicians for the past 9 years.

Disappointed to know, not even the mentioning of it in the State budget session. The authorities are boasting themselves, stating that Udupi District stands first among the Districts in the pass percentage at 10th & 12th examination results. Where are the opportunities for the rural poor and female candidates to pursue higher education especially in the populous economically poor Kundapura taluk. It is anticipated that more attention will be paid to Kundapura Taluk for the developmental work including the establishment of more educational institutions. Living with hope in the coming says.

Mr Ismail.. it is true Congress secured more votes in Udupi assembly seat , this is because of Mr Hegde's personal charisma. I dare Mr Osacar to contest elections in Udupi for that matter no congress leaders.. Mr Bhat is doing good job..no doubt about it..Udupi is growing.. Voters of Udupi has given warning to BJP in the recent election.

    Rakesh Shetty Mangalore,

Ragupathi Bhat might feeling heat of the loss of U-C by- election and more importantly traditional BJP stronghold UDUPI assembly segment with huge majority to Congress. Believe me, R.Bhat's honeymoon period is over and it is unlikely that next election may with out him.His wife's episode may cost dear and in future will be the issue may raked by foes and oppn.
