Dubai: Finally, AI Express to Mangalore Takes off After 24-hour Delay

Dubai: Finally, AI Express to Mangalore Takes off After 24-hour Delay

Daijiworld Media Network - Dubai

Dubai, Apr 11: Passengers of Dubai-Mangalore Air India Express flight, who  were stranded at Dubai International Airport Terminal - 2, finally got relief when their flight took off after a 24-hour delay.

As reported by daijiworld on Tuesday, without intimating the exact depature time, Air India had put over 150 passengers in a dilemma, and provided accomodation in a hotel. On Tuesday April 10 at 7 pm, all the passengers were taken back to the airport on assurance that the flight would depart at 8 pm. But there was no sign of departure, and once again there was chaos as police security personnel had to interfere to pacify the angry Mangalore-bound passengers.

"We had small children crying the whole day, elderly people had to face nightmares, we had to spend the entire 24 hours in anxiety, and the treatment by the Air India staff was inhuman. This is a case worth reporting to Human Right commission, and we are planning to approach the Human Rights authorities in the UAE when we are back," said an angry passenger.

"How can Air India take us for granted? Are we their slaves? They loaded our luggage, issued boarding pass, and then after spending around 6 hours in the airport lobby, informed us about the delay and took us to hotel," said the passenger.

"We were begging them to return our luggage, so that we could arrange another flight and reach safely back to Mangalore," said a woman who was travelling with her mother and two kids.

"None of the staff took the responsibility, and they were just passing the buck on others. A big movement is needed to teach a lesson to Air India staff of Dubai airport," she said.

"The crew was aware that the delay would be of 24 hours, that's why they were avoiding answering us," she said.

Finally the passengers have been boarded on the next day's flight (Wednsday 1.10 am), and this flight too was delayed by an hour!.

Dubai-Mangalore Flight Fails to Take Off - Passengers Left in the Lurch

Daijiworld Media Network - Dubai

Dubai, Apr 10: The 150 passengers of Dubai - Mangalore Air India Express flight, scheduled to take off at 1.10 am on Tuesday April 10, had a harrowing time after the flight failed to take off, and was neither cancelled nor rescheduled.

Though the flight from Mangalore had arrived last night on schedule, the same flight had to take off at 1.10 am from Dubai International Airport - terminal 2. All the passengers having passed the immigration formalities were eagerly waiting to board the flight.

No indication has been given by the airport ground staff or the Air India staff. Passengers who were waiting for the boarding announcement lost patience and at around 2.30 am took the ground staff to task and demanded updates on the flight. The staff assured that the flight would take off at around 3.30 am, as usual giving 'technical' reason for the delay.

Passengers including small children, women, and the elderly had to go through a lot of difficulties at the airport.

According to a passenger, who contacted daijiworld this morning, informed that at 7 am, all passengers were taken to Lotus hotel at Diera, but were not given any reschedule time. The repeated requests from the passengers have not been answered by the Air India staff in Dubai. "We have been provided breakfast, and lunch, but unitl now (12 noon Tueday), there is no clear information on the flight schedule. We do not know whether the flight will be cancelled or we will be boarded on the flight next day, that is, Wednesday 1.10 am," the passenger told daijiworld.

Daijiworld's attempts at contacting Air India office in Dubai received no response. At the same time, sources from Mangalore Airport said that the flight went on schedule last night, but this morning the Dubai-bound flight could not arrive due to technical problems.

Over 150 passengers are in uncertain situation about their departure as their family members are waiting at the airport to welcome them. Those people who have come from Kasargod, Kannur, Bhatkal, Kundapur are not sure whether to wait or return to their places.

The Air India Dubai staff's attitude has seriously put innocent passengers in complete dark.

I and my family were unfortunate to be on the passenger list and being blessed with such un professional behaviour and attitude shown by the AIE staff. The truth is of 150 passengers, 35 passenger were at the airport waiting lounge for over 24hrs.Immagine myself with family having 6yr kid and a infant, just sitting downthere and waiting for the next announcement for departing time. There were 4-5 other family at the waiting area with kids frustrated and going through the same delemma.
It was a total nightmare, All thanks to AIE, it took me 2days to overcome and getting back to normal.
As a mangalorean,i advice mangalorens to take AIE flight at YOUR OWN RISK.

Be it dubai or mangalore or any other destination AIR INDIA EXPRESS is a worst carrier ever have I seen. We are forced to use this airline just to save one precious day of our holiday. Dear Air India, first of all thank you for providing your services a direct flight to most of the Middle East Countries, but as a matter of fact your services off lately are truely not up to the mark (i.e. poor administrations, poor communications, poor seats for the passangers and many more to be thrown if your suggestions box was bigger). My own experience for the past few years travelling with AI is terrible especially from Bahrain 4 hrs journey that too during the lunch time and what is being offered to the passangers is just hard crust and nothing that we could say is truly hospitable.

Being a budgeted aircraft,Air India should learn from the other aviation industy of what service is to be provided to the passangers.

It's inappropriate to blame entire AIE for the long delay which was due to unavoidable circumstances. But I am sure at least the top level officers of AIE in Dubai were well aware of the situation who should be brought to task for not informing the passengers and for putting them into such inconvenience. These officers deserve to be suspended for irresponsibility.

Dont blame AIE. Planes do get technical snags often, which have to be corrected.
Who would you blame if something happend for the same flight if it had taken off and encountered mishap. Do you want to take that chance or are you wanting to get compensations in the event of mishap.
It is not free to ground the aircraft in Dubai for 24 hours, AIE had to pay the airport for that, is that easy for AIE to do that, than to take passengers in time.
Just think over it. Ofcourse AIE has some drawbacks, which cant be compared to Emirates airlines, after all Emirates airlines has raised fares since last year, similar to other airlines.

I had been to AI office in Dubai today to change a ticket since the webiste was not working. I called almost 70 times, either it was busy or no answer. When I was there and questioned about this, the lady staff gave me a rude answer saying it is not a AI call center to answer the phone calls and I noticed that the phones were cornered and receivers were out of the dailing units.

It is our fate that we mangaloreans have live with this situation where our aviation minister is sleeping and Mr. Moily is railing. We have to start a campaign on one of the social networks against this attitude of the AI Attitudes.

Anyway, for your information..I started flying by Air India ever since it started its operation to Mangalore. And I fly every six months..I think this information is more than enough. I know their service is not that of top class but not bad either too. There are thousands of passengers are flying daily by airIndia safely & issueless.

Aviation minister should be responsible for the miss management & bad service they provide to gulf passengers eventhough the gulf sector is profit making sector for AI express.Infact they are robbing the gulf pessangers by charging heavy air fare and the service is very bad. God knows where the profit goes. At the same time Air arabia being budget airline is making a huge profit. Our Government is ready to bail out this ailing AI/express but not KF and Jet airways who provide best service. Now the Gulf sector should be given to KF and jet airways and it will be life support for these unfortunate airlines. AI and KF should concentrate on other sectors leaving the gulf sector to other 2 airlines.

Nobody wants to travel with AIE to Managlore. However there is no choice. If you have kids, luggage you cannot any other airport. SIE is misusing the opportunity and taking advantages of poor travellers. They are charging heavily and giving substandard service. They are not committed in their service, their crews in Dubai airport is worst. They don't even know how to behave . After the accident many stopped travelling through AIE , however for people travelling with family , there is no choice. Need to risk ourself, subject ourself to all their hassles and sub standard service. Let's hope Air Arabia will start flying from Mangalore..

We all think that by opting to fly in our national carriers, we are helping our country. We also assume that by not allowing any other carrier to fly from Mangalore, we are contributing to our exchequer. Let's see the facts.

    1. Being a monopoly, Air India Express is charging much higher than other sectors and other international carriers. Indian citizens who fly by AIX is suffering by sub-standard service and paying much higher everytime. For example, flight from Dubai to Malaysia in a very good carrier costs the same as Dubai- Mangalore, which is less than half the distance. Remember, major cost is fuel (that's why fuel surchage), so we are paying almost Rs. 10,000 extra every time we use Air India Express. This is a huge loss to Indian Citizens.

    2. By not allowing any other international flights to land in Mangalore, Airport is losing valuable income and it means less revenue for the government (more tax for us). We are also losing business and employment opportunities too. More flights will increase the demand for all aligned businesses such as retail & services, cargo, transport, hotel etc.

    3. By running the Air India (and express) service, govt in incurring huge loss every year, which is a burden to tax payers. By eliminating Air India and allotting the routes to other carriers, govt will be doing a valuable service to itself, citizens and tourists. Just imagine the business opportunity lost now by Mangalore and South Canara.

Whatever comments and discussions will not change anything. We need to go about educating people and govt authorities, pressurising elected members and building public awareness and even agitation if required. We have much bigger issues in life, and there is no point taking this insult and suffering any more. Let each one of us make sure that the authorities allow other carriers to fly immediately. Let us all take a pledge that we will strive for it regardless of our religion, political allegience and region.

Dear friends, you may recall that a couple of years back there weren't any direct flights to Mangalore from the Middle East. People trusted flying down to the nearest airport (Bombay), waiting in transit (for 5/6 hours) and catching the connecting IA flight to Mangalore. Option 2 was to board a bus OR Option 3 was to travel by train. Some readers may agree with me since many of my relatives did the same way but with little inconvenience. I sincerely sympathize the untold hardships every single Mangalorean keeps facing regularly to reach their destination, some lucky without any hinderances. It's really unfortunate that Mangaloreans have had to bear so much of this just because they are local natives for no fault. Today even though point-to-point connectivity with direct flights to any available destinations is available, yet the monopoly moron AIE is showing its true colours by mercilessly dumping and leaving their own nationals in a lurch. Other airlines like Jet Airways are serious enough and having the last laugh by cashing on AIE passengers nitty gritty dramas and showing them the alternatives. AIE is totally spineless and yet it challenges that it cannot be left down and out. Who says that AIE is a pauper airline with a begging bowl? I personally don't believe in this else it would have closed down operations long back. This is a stunt tactic between AIE and Jet Airways to swap passengers "you accomodate my passengers and vice versa" surely they are cashing up on the situation. I feel very embarassed reading the sordid endless saga of AIE time and again and again with nobody knowing where to go. I wonder why the Aviation Ministry or the Prime Minister allowed its bifurcation and is not taking any concrete steps to mitigate this situation once and for all. What happened to Walter Nandalike's efforts a few months ago? Is that effort become a sham/ gone futile or just a ploy by some social-vested-elements to pass on the buck. AIE will never stop playing games ..

We vote based on caste politics. But than we also dont have choice...Election commission is never going to wake up.... strong leaders will never emerge... And we are not going to do anything about it.....Why dont mangalore diocese committee members coordinate with hindu & muslim religious leaders and take this issue at political level...after all we are also represented at diocese level.

I had a bad experience when I travelled by AIE flight on 5/12/2011, 1.25 a.m. flight from Dubai to Mangalore. The flight was supposed to reach at Mangalore Airport at 6.30 a.m. But because of the fog they diverted the flight to Calicut. This reason is believable. But what happened after that was a horrible experience. They landed the flight in Calicut Airport by 7 a.m. and then every half an hour they used to give us the information that the fog is not cleared at Mangalore Airport, so there will be delay. Around 10.45 a.m. they gave the information that, now the situation clear at Mangalore and we will be leaving in few minutes. The real reason why they had stopped the flight at Calicut airport, we came to know when the passengers of Kuwait AIE flight were also made to travel by our flight. We had to suffer sitting inside the flight more than three hours (7 a.m. to 11.30 a.m.), only because they had to accommodate the passengers of other flight. The reasons this AIE staff gives are always false. “Air India Express, THE RATES ARE HIGH BUT THE SEVICE IS LOW”

Our great Minister Mr. Moily left a rail in your interview that he will see to it that Managlore airport will get international status by December 20, 2011. after that he revised his statement in another function that aviation minister is busy in UP elections and rescheduled after election nothing happened may be because they lost in UP very badly now that particular minister may be busy in finding the reason of election result. Kindly bring all these Ministers and MP of our state to address this problems of Mangaloreans lives in Gulf. I noticed the phone is keep ringing and the lady and other guy least bother to answer and they are deep discussing about an ad in the newspaper and when my turn arrived and date got modified i asked her about extra baggage services she gave me their land line number and asked me to call when I asked her are you sure gonna pick my call? she had no answer..

After paying huge fair as if they are giving us business class hospitality. We are treated as a stranger for our own country people. It was never been safe to fly & after all "Beggar are not Chooser"
