In mangalore the historical churches domolised the church authorities and build new churches. the priests are doing only one job is building new churches and new marriage halls. there is no spiritual activities in the church.when the new appointment of priest in the church their first job is build a new church.

It was pleasure to see the church mounted on hill. Sad to see the fragmented parts of demolished church on the National highway. Great to learn people have made up mind to build a new one. I wish all success. May God bless all involved and may we have the pleasure of seeing a more tempting new structure in place of the old one.

We should totally agree with Aefram Ferrao . William / Ajay / NV , please do not comment when you do not know the reality . The Church was standing on the edge of the hill and the NHAI had dug the hill on one side that the church was in real threat and its a good decision to build a new church than keeping the lives of people in danger . Incase , the church collapses with a landslide in the Mangalore monsoon and people die , the blame will again come on the Bishop and the Parish Priest for not taking any steps. Church may be old but it does not mean that we can put people lives in danger .

It was Gods will and he talks to his people within to save his people from Danger . I also want to know how many of you have ever visited this Church. The Christians of Mangalore should come forward to support than sitting behind and criticising. I have all the Confidence that Jesus Christ will not let down the people of this Church . I too will come forward and contribute for this development . Our Bishop of Mangalore has done alot and is still doing alot for the people of Mangalore in respect to caste and religion .

GOD Bless our Bishop and Fr Harold and give them the strength to complete the task which GOD have given them . Its the temple of the Lord that is being built and we humans have no authority to question him. Lets us all remember that what ever is built in the Church is for the people and the Bishop and Priest do not carry anything with them when they get transfered from these church or die .

Aefram Ferrao...this much arrogance is not good. You cannot tell anybody to comment or not to comment. We are just expressing our views whether you take it or not, it's upto you. You may agree or disagree but you can't tell anybody not to comment.

The danger to the earlier structure from the highway widening was overplayed. Instead of preserving such beautiful church perched on the hillock, the concerned were overenthusiastic to demolish it, The concerned authorieyes do not care a damn about church history and heritage. The justification for bigger churches as the number of faithful have increased does not hold good as we have seen in Goa where centuries old church structures are preserved and used for service.

Have faithful not increased in numbers in Goa in the last 550 years? It is shame as the Catholics in Mangalore are not proud of their heritage. compounding the problem further are the priests who are out on concreting every inch available in the church land. Faith does not come from the concrete structure it comes from the collective history and identity we share.

N.V. Yekkar...I agree with you. They should have retained the old church since it is one of the oldest church in Mangalore diocese so that our future generation can also see this historical church. But now, as Boniface said it's too late. We should preserve the oldest monuments and churches.

    Dear N.V. Yekkar, Permude,

It is too late now. Church is already demolised and ground is levelled as you can see from the pictures. Now only need is the utmost cooperation from the parisheners in general and by diocese in particular.
