Mangalore, Apr 15: Union corporate affairs minister Dr M Veerappa Moily during his visit to the city on Sunday April 15 said that the state government has failed to tackle the issue of drought that is affecting taluks across Karnataka.

Moily who was here to take part in the meeting on formation of Global Devadiga Foundation told reporters at Ocean Pearl Hotel that earlier the state goverment had declared 123 taluks to be drought-hit, but it was a mere announcement and no concrete action has been taken to tackle the problem.

"For two months and 20 days the state government was busy in internal clashes over the CM's post, and hence the drought issue was neglected," he said.

"Though the central government sent a team of officials to examine the drought situation in the state, the government did not show any interest. Only now they have woken up, when the situation has worsened," he said, adding that the state government had not even sent a report on the drought to the centre.

However, he praised chief minister Sadananda Gowda for touring the drought-hit taluks, calling it a good move.

When reporters asked what the central government has done to tackle the problem in Karnataka, he said the centre has so far released a sum of Rs 129 crore but the state government has failed to make use of it.

Moily also said that though the state government has shown concern over drought, the the problem of fodder still exists.

When asked to comment on the boycott of evaluation by PU teachers, he expressed concern that it would create problems for students appearing for CET. "Both government and the teachers should think of the students. The government should work towards fulfiling the demands of the teachers and immediate solution should be sought out," he added.

The formation of Devadiga Global Foundation will facilitate help students who want to pursue higher education and also look after the healthcare for the needy. All Devadiga Sanghas across the world will be extending their support to the cause.

Devadiga community leaders Harish Sherigar, Dharmapal Devadiga, Dinakar Attavar, Raghu Sherigar, Dinesh Devadiga, K Mohandas and H Mohandas welcomed Moily.

He spoke about the unused money and at the same time he appreciated Sadananda Gowda also.
Then why the commentators are not commenting about the unused money?
Why they are deviated from subject and attacking Moily directly?????
Why are you so rigid and blindly supporting the parties???

Dear Moily, thank you for your concern, we accept the fact that there is no govt in Karnataka kindly you do something for the state using your influence at centre. By the way you landed at Manglore international airport or Domestic airport? Was there any BD activists to salute you? We need immediate help from centre at drought hit areas. BJP has emptied the state treasury already. DVS is handling 20 portfolios as there is nothing to be done at ministry level. Every one is sleeping. God save Karnataka. Since one week no any new issue.

Oh Oh Moily Saab in Mangalore again. Please vacate the place before you make any further promises or BD scroll you down. Whether drought, flood, fire or storm, Karnataka people still happy because at least they know their fate in advance but not false promises you made till date. Severe drought like situation in Uttar Karnataka is not new to our State.

In fact for so many years now, few talukas suffer from drought like situation but at least this time BJP Government made some awareness of the situation so that our Central Government makes some valuable contribution to solve the problem not mere giving 129 Crores which is nothing but just enough for hire charges of Water Tankers for few days in all talukas

    Mr Moily,

Mind your own business. First do your part as central minister. State Govt is doing its best to tackle drought situation.

You made a statement before rail budget "A lot of pressure have been exerted on Railway ministry to fulfill demands of state. I have personally met Rail minister"

Either you told lie, or you have no value in congress. You are a big liar. After next MP election, you will have to see some Rajyasabha seat. Useless fellow.

Infact, the drought condition in half of the Karanataka used for scoring political mileage and used for political vendetta.

Under four years of BJP rule in Karnataka, there were flooding and drought in which tackling of the situations are were very poor due to the inexperience in the admin and incompetent in dealing in crisis management. Those who lost houses in flood still living under temporary tin roof. However, some businessman and people like Shri D.Verrendra Hegde made available some PAKKA shelters for the victims. What was Govt's share in dealing with this unprecedented flooding?

In both situations BJP's factional fighting was @ peak thereby hindered any considerable contribution in tackling natural calamities.Being said that, Central Govt need to take serious step to help drought hit areas of Karnataka in avoiding political statements instead swing in to actions.

If center has given 129crores and state has not used it then it is really a sad incidence.
This kind of failure is not at all acceptable. I hope the state government will wake up before we see the farmers suicide.
May be ministers are engaged in discussion how to share this 129 crores among themselves and since the leadership is also changed (yeddi is not there) they are not able to come under final conclusion.

What is the role of opposition in Karnataka? Moily comes and goes just to give some statements and promises. What about his promise on getting international status to Mangalore airport? Is he really bothered about Mangaloreans and their problems?
