Mangalore, Apr 16: Members of Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) jointly held a protest in front of Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) here on Monday April 16, demanding the immediate closure of Kudroli abattoir (slaughter house).

The abattoir is owned by the MCC, however, the activists contented that it was illegal and demanded that it should be closed with immediate effect.

Speaking on the occasion, M B Puranik said that the government should follow the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and that the slaughter house has not been constructed according to the provisions of the law.

The protestors, which also included Gurpur Vajradehi Swamiji, said that animals in the slaughter house were being killed in a cruel manner which was against law.

They also pointed out that the MCC has failed to make any improvisations or improvements in the abattoir, as against the requirements of law.

"Every slaughter house should have a meat testing facility which can determine the quality of meat and whether it is fit for consumption. But the Kudroli slaughter house has no such provision," they said, adding that even if the dead cows from Ottinene (where  cattle died of consuming toxic waste) were to be brought to the slaughter house for their meat, no one would know.

They also claimed that according to the information they received, even calves are being slaughtered in the abattoir, which is a punishable offence under the Karnataka Prevention Of Cow Slaughter And Cattle Preservation Act, 1964.

A large number of proestors along with leaders Manohar Tulajaram, Sharan Pumpwell, Harish Amtady and Pradeep Pumpwell were present. They also paid a tribute to 'Go Matha' and observed a day-long fast.

All those photos of jobless people should be kept in a file for future use. They are precisely the trouble makers in Karnataka who go around destroying religuous places. They are the ones who cause trouble in pubs and during valentines day. They look like jobless hooligans. Its a shame to the hindu community that these jobless people are a part of their community who go about causing destruction.

I will fully support this agitation. If majority are not in favor we have to respect the religious sentiments. No one dies without beef. But please don't hurt others religious beliefs. Our Hindu brothers are very tolerant unlike any other community. Let us respect and live peacefully.

Cow is sacred animal for a Hindu. We consider them equal to our mother. I request educated friends not to downgrade our sentiments while endorsing the people's right to eat anything under the sky. If you want to eat any meat eat it, but dont condemn or make fun at any religion.

Holy cow!!!!!!. BD people look around you and within. There are billions of people who eat cow’s meat all over the world. BD should ask for a proper authorized slaughter houses and controlled retail of meat.

Dear BD friends please fight for development of Mangalore and raise the issue of corruption, roads and cleanliness of Mangalore City. You cannot fool people with such silly issues.

Those who were in the pictures are Labors, Bus Conductors and Drivers. They even don't have the proper education to decide what is right and what is wrong. All got their payment to do this act.In the evening u will find same people consuming beef in Arafa hotel or nearby Kudroli hotel. This is the fact of Bajrangis.

The intention of BD is not to protect the Gomatha, they want to trouble minorities and Daliths this is the target, but if they will succeeded in ban cow slaughter in the state its ultimately benefit to us because of regular eating of beef is creates lots of health problems like heart, diabetes, cholesterol and many more dieses, cow meat ban will help us to keep good health and save money from spending to medicine and hospital, also increase of Chicken and Mutton price due to non availability of beef will burden to them and take care of millions of cows are one more tension in drought effected our state. Let them ban cow slaughter let them suffer.

The certain points raised by BD is debatable and punishable if it so exactly (dead cows meat, testing lab etc)The specification of Kudroli Abattoir which is owned by MCC should follow std of Operating system which was stipulated by concerned ministry. It is related to environmental health and Hygienic Compliance.

Coming to the issue, the BD's demand for application of PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS ACT 1960 to the said Abattoir is politically motivated..If these JOBLESS GROUP OF INDIVIDUALS(BD)want to apply the ACT of 1960 then why they were mum about

1 Kambla(baffelo race)because using force and solely with a view of providing entertainment, invokes PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMAL (CHAPTER-3)

2 Animals Used in Circus also applies 1960 ACT

3.Willfully permits Cows(ANIMALS)of which he is owner to go @ large in any street also applies 1960 ACT CHAPTER -3

    ANY COMMENTS FROM BD SYMPATHIZER...

Those are the few provisions in the PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMAL ACT 1960 and BD/VHP conspiously mum and one can come to the conclusion that their agenda is something.

If the only available slaughter house is closed, the mutton and beef eaters will slaughter the animals in private places that are more dangerous than this. Some mischief mongers will discard the animal remain in nearby rivers and lakes that is quite common in un-authorised animal slaughtering places.
Let the protector of Indian culture request for up-gradation of the existing Kudroli slaughter house than demanding its closure. It is high time the authority construct more high-tech and all-facility slaughter houses for all animals including fish cleaning. The Slaughter House Complexes should have meat-testing labs, veterinary doctors, ice-plants, storage houses, police check-posts, MCC Health office and the offices of different meat-consumer’s association. The authority should construct more such Slaughter Houses on the outskirt of Mangalore like Ullal, Derlakatte, Vamnajore, Surathkal and Kannur.
Like in Kerala, people of this region should be encouraged to eat buffalo meat that is cheap, cooling and good for arthritis whereas bullock/Ox meat generates heat. It is found that chicken and beef without fat are lean meats which have less LDL and more HDL cholesterols. Beef is one of the cheapest and excellent source of complete protein and minerals such as zinc, selenium, phosphorus and iron, and B vitamins.[18] Red meat is the most significant dietary source of carnitine and like any other meat (pork, fish, veal, lamb etc.), is a source of creatine.
Beef is the culinary name for meat from bovines, especially domestic cattle. Beef can be harvested from cows, bulls, heifers or steers. It is one of the principal meats used in the cuisine of the Middle East (including Pakistan and Afghanistan), Australia, Argentina, Brazil, Europe and the United States, and is also important in Africa, parts of East Asia, and Southeast Asia. Beef is considered a taboo food in some cultures, especially in Indian culture, and thence is eschewed by Hindus and Jains.

India is the 3rd strongest country in the world and having one of the best legal constitution.

The LAW applies for each and every citizen equally and are allowed to live respecting law.

The law breakers will be questioned and penalized by Police and court of law.

Going against the LAW and court of LAW is a punishable offence. Unfortunately the great PROFESSOR PURANIK is unaware of this and he is teaching this to his chelas.

Book him and put him inside bar immediately to retain peace and harmony in the society.

Limit the protest for the brutality on slaughtering cattle's.

New Drama ! Their placards show 'Go-Hattye Nillisi' and they demand a testing unit to ensure fit for human consumption meat products. Will anybody tell them that abattoirs produce meat of goats too ?

Do they intend to make Karnataka vegetarian ? Why fish markets or chicken stalls then ? Why aren't they asking to close them too ? Shouldn't they demand to close Nandini Milk factory too ?

Good move I should say from VHP and Bajrang dal. Now there is another side of the coin. what to do with all the cattle that is stranded on the street? old cows? who will stop their menace on the streets. It would be better if these gifted one each to the protesters to be taken care of. This way lati bhi nahin tootegi aur samph bi bach jayega. good luck.
