Left-wing Extremism Steadily Increasing in Karnataka: DVS

New Delhi, Apr 16 (PTI): Left-wing extremism (LSE) is steadily increasing in five districts of Karnataka, Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda today said, demanding support from the Centre in training and provision of infrastructure to tackle it.

Addressing the chief ministers' conference on internal security, Gowda said while hardcore Naxal-affected states were being provided with additional funding, states like Karnataka which are also affected by the menace were not getting any support.

"The grand plan of left-wing organisations to infiltrate and expand their activities to infiltrate and expand their activities in the states sharing the Western Ghats is well known to the central government. As part of this plan, Naxal activities in the five Western Ghats' districts of Karnataka are steadily increasing," he said.

He said the state is requesting support from the central government in strengthening the manpower of anti-Naxal force by way of training, additional funding and provision for state-of-art arms but no such assistance has been given by the Centre.

Gowda asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to ensure assistance to the state through CRPF's COBRA unit in training of Anti-Naxalite Unit staff of Karnataka Police and also to extend additional funding and supply of appropriate arms to the unit.

He said while Naxal-affected states have been allowed to set up critical infrastructure in the forest areas through relaxation of Forest Conservation Act, Karnataka has not been allowed to do so.

"In spite of our repeated requests, no such relaxation is being extended so far by the Union Ministry of Forest and Environment. Through this forum, I impress upon the Prime Minister to extend such relaxation to the Naxal-affected areas of Karnataka also," he said.

Left wing extremism is to balance the right wing fundamentalism.

If anyone thought that the religious fundamentalism is a good thing for society or nation, well, you were warned.

Religious fundamentals, served it's own religious and sectarian agenda. It was not serving the causes of the disgruntled poor folks or the unemployed youth.

Due to the communal approach of the government, those few, who were serving the cause of poor/marginalized, became cautious and reduced their charitable work.

The 'would-be naxals' group has been really impacted as no one is looking at them. Government is busy serving the political ambitions, corruption, communal divisions and what not.

Since they feel that no one is really giving them any attention, they will start seeking attention, through the only way they know.

The anti government, anti rich, anti organized society feeling is on the rise and it will go only northwards. And till the POWER lobby (rich, people in power, religious leaders) feels the heat, they will not be heard. By then, they will be spread large and wide, like the north eastern states may be.

Before embarking on an all out war against the Naxalites, let the government ensure that incident of misunderstanding (due to improper investigation) as happened in case of Mr.Vittal Malekudia and combing operations conducted to nab Veerappan, are not repeated. It is therefore, highly imperative to deploy honest and trustworthy officers to naxal infected areas so as to prevent inhuman atrocities on the innocent people of the region.

As per latest statistics of Karnataka Govt, there are only 40 people actively( Naxals)participating in Naxal movements! We have ANF(ANTI NAXAL FORECE)combing Naxal affected area frequently but of no use!?ANF has to be strengthened with advanced electronic gadgets and advanced combatant equipment.

On the other hand naxal inflicted areas need to be developed with basic amenities like road,Hospotal, transportation, water supply, uninterrupted power supply and employment @ least one in a family etc.Locals, tribal, village chieftains are to be taken in to confidence. The recent episode of Kuthlur of Belthangady in which Mr Vittal Malekudia, who is the only PG student of journalism of their community in DK, accused of sympathizer of Naxals, lodged in the jail with out bail!! This episode, certainly, not conducive to a good atmosphere between Govt and Locals of Naxal affected area. Therefore,Govt should take and study all pros and cons before embarking for all out war against NAXALS.
