Mangalore: Three Injured in Truck-Omni Collision at Karnad Bypass

Mangalore, Apr 16: Three passengers travelling in a Maruti Omni were injured in a head-on collision with a tipper truck at Karnad bypass here on Monday April 16.

The injured are 35-year-old Jayanti, 47-year-old Srinivas and 60-year-old Michael.

The tipper truck was that was plying from Udupi to Mangalore rammed into the Maruti Omni that was moving from the opposite direction at around 11.50 am.

The injured have been admitted at Srinivas Hospital, Mukka, here.

Mulky police have registered a case in this regard.

    Sunil Haleangadi, thanks for the pictures. Maruti Omni should be banned on certain roads as we see more and more accidents of this kind of vehicles. In this accident I feel the driver of the Maruti Omni was at fault.

    Why blame the Roads, and blame the Omni, pl see the picture, its very clear that the car guy was on the wrong side of the road, and has brushed aganist the lorry , thank their stars that it was a 35 Tonne Truck with 4 axles, if it was a tipper it would have had a higher GC and only 3 axles, the van could have been easily run over. this can happen to any vehicle including what ever one feels is the safest one to drive around

    The Government has to ban this shape of vehicles.You always find this with 7 seats created inside and always full of passengers.Very Very unsafe even the school omni vans are dangerous.

    Develop the roads, particularly by keeping Indian kind of road safety in mind. Change the RTO and Traffic Police rules so that they will follow the given guidelines of International standard. Cancel the licenses, confiscate vehicles and fine heavily on those who carelessly and dangerously park their vehicles on the main road or national and state highways. There are thousands of religious hundies at strategic points along the highways that are very dangerous to the speeding traffic. There are panchayat erected dividers and humps on the highways without any reflectors to indicate their existences that is very dangerous to the speeding vehicles on highways. The local buses, taxis and autos stop, park and ply their vehicles on highways as if they are in their local gullies. The bullock carts and tractors/tillers in the rural highways are using the speeding highways like their backyards. There are farmers who leave there animals along the highways but sometime they are a big nightmare to the speeding vehicles particularly during nights. There should be strict rules and guidelines for breakdown vehicles on highways and stopping/parking of vehicles on the curves/bends of the highways.
    Build flyovers through BOOT basis at all intersection roads/junctions and block the local roads from directly entering the highways. The locally running village and town vehicles should follow strict highway disciplines before entering the speeding highways that are driven by tired long distance plying drivers. There should be road barriers with overhead pedestrian bridge at all village and town regions. There should not be local bus stops on national highways without well designed bus bays and traffic islands for them. Bus bays have been introduced in a lot of highway bus stops in Japan especially where stopping buses without bays would block traffic stream seriously. In that sense, bus-bays in Japan have been evaluated as successful cases for road safety. Why can’t we?

    Why this Koleveri Omni,Omni... such a dangerous vehicle ever invented ( Nano is not different)).These vehicles should be banned immediate.Both these cars are dangerous in NH66-Udupi-Mlore high ways.Company make cheaper car then we tempt to buy. Less pricecheaper car -less quality-less safety or safety.

    with so many traffic mishaps, the word 'Mangalore' is virtually coming closer to the synonym 'Accident'. The main culprit is RTO and the related people harming the public for personal gain. No doubt the drivers too play a vital role in this disturbing tendency.

    It looks like it's mistake of omni - trying to overtake front vehicle. Opposite truck belongs to Andhra - well experienced person.
