Mangalore, Apr 18: After days of hide-and-seek, heavy rains finally lashed the city for over an hour on Wednesday April 18 evening.

The office-goers and passengers were stranded as it rained at peak hours. The commuters were caught unawares, but enjoyed the cool rains nevertheless.

A public meet that was organized by SSF at Nehru Maidan here was disrupted.

A traffic booth located near city police commissioner’s office toppled due to the strong wind which was accompanied by thunder and lightning.

The motorists had an agonising time riding and driving through roads splashed with the first rains.\

As soon as it began raining, power supply was disrupted in various parts of cities.

It is hoped that the rains would ease the water crisis in the city. The municipal council has been judiciously supplying drinking water to the people in the city limits every alternative day, as the water level in Thumbay dam has been depleting since a few weeks threatening acute water shortage.

It also rained briefly in the city at around 2.30 am on the same day.

Pandal Collapses

Six people were injured after a pandal collapsed at Shaktinagar here on Wednesday April 18.

The incident took place close to Gopalkrishna Temple near the police quarters.

Sources said that the pandal collapsed due to the heavy rain strong wind that lashed the city on Wednesday evening.

Speaking to Daijiworld, Kankanady rural police said that identities of the injured are yet to be ascertained.

Vinay.....I know you will be under annoyance..What kind of politics are in my comments...OK, agreed for the sake of argument...then my question for you is....Mr Yeddy,X-CM,of Karnataka, openly aired that during his tenure as CM, there were enough rain with very good monsoon in Karnataka and now during DVS time acute shortage of potable/Drinking water withe severe drought.....what is your comment? By the by I did not mentioned any politics here, infact recently she(GULZAR BANU) visited Thubay Dam which supplies drinking water to Mangaloreans and on the eve, she was upset of river's receding stock of water and I guess, she might have prayed God to help her as God helped her in making of MANGALORE COROPRATION MAYOR for free of cost.If you think that is political statement then I can't help you.

Mr. Vinay, Mangalore, a few days back when there was no sign of rain in the nearest future and the water level receding rapidly at Nethravathi river , a reader in this column termed Mayor Gulzar Banu "Apashakuna" for the reducing water level. This is just a reply for that person who termed her election as "apashakuna".. SO ask the same question yourself "Whats the relationship between receding water level and election of Gulzar Banu? If it were a BJP mayor in the place of Gulzar Banu, would the water level increased?? Better you advice that person also..

Wow! Mangalore is cool now....What a beautiful climate it is!
But i still confused, Whats the relationship between rain and Gulzar Banu? If Gulzar Banu wouldnt be a Mayor, rain will not come? For each n everything some readers are bringing politics. First we have clean ourselves then give lectures to others.

That’s why we say GOD is great. When no one is there to help us, “Rain God” blesses on us. It’s all happening just because we all still believe in GOD whichever name he has and whatever manner we worship him. I hope now no Political Party will take credit for bringing “Rain Water” to Mangalore!!!

    Dear all,
I was taking my evening walk when I was caught in the rain.
Boy! did I enjoy it! It was simply awesome.I had no umbrella - but that was a blessing.
I wrapped my mobile in a plastic bag and walked about 4 Kms, drenching myself but enjoying every step along the way.
I remember the famous song "They say heaven is a place on earth" - I do not know the singer. However, I felt like heaven today.
For dinner today I had PATHRADE's. Tomorrow breakfast will be brown rice kanji and dry prawns chutney!.
As usual, Daiji has come up with lovely pictures.
Have a nice monsoon day all of you.
