According to the police sources, at 12 noon, Guruprasad received a call on his mobile phone asking him to come near the bus stand at Bibi Alabi road near Bunder. When Guruprasad reached there, he spotted the gang members and realized he was called there to be killed. He started running for his life and the gang chased him before hacking him to death.

The police recovered two swords from the spot.

It is also said that Guruprasad feared for his life and had taken refuge in Bangalore. He came down to Mangalore only some days back.

In an startling incident, a man was chased by five to six people of a gang in broad daylight and hacked to death.

The incident occured at Bibi Alabi road near Bunder here on Monday April 23 at around 1.30 pm.

The victim has been identified as Guruprasad (30), a resident of Bajilakeri. He was married and has a child.

The Guruprasad was at the bus stand in the area when a gang of five-six people began chasing him. He then ran into a juice centre to hide, where the attackers followed.

Guruprasad succumbed to his injuries to his injuries. The juice centre owner said that the man was injured badly even before entering his place. It is surmised that the gang assaulted him even as he was running for his life.

The motive behind the murder is said to be gang rivalry. Guruprasad was an accused in the murder of Kadle Manja, a rowdy, in 2009. He was jailed in the case, but due to lack of evidence the case was closed and he was released. A few months ago, he was working as a tempo driver.

It is suspected that Manja's gang members might have taken revenge. Attempts were made on his life twice before, and on one occasion he even lost a finger.

Bunder police led by ACP Vinay Gaonkar arrived at the spot.

The body has been shifted to Wenlock.

Public memory is so short!! Couple of days back a young girl was kidnapped in broad daylight, all have forgotten about that and gotten engrossed in this insignificant gang war case!!! This suggests we the commoners have to be ready for more. Best remedy is to have your own security for your life and property and not depend on others! Criminals and antisocial elements, various mafias are ruling the roost in our city!!!

Gangsters have become daredevil and have absolutely no fear of the police is evident from this killing! They know with the political clout, money power, and connection with police they will be out on bail fast! But these type of brazen incidents happening every other day makes the common man jittery and insecure. Safety and security are the prime considerations for a peaceful city. Today it is no more. The land mafia, drug mafia, extortion mafia, prostitution mafia have loads of money to take care of their men in case of arrest. More so no witness will dare give witness in court, the case will be dismissed soon, and the perpetrators will walk out free more powerful than before. With all sorts of illegal activities going on citizens have to be as vigilant as ever in protecting themselves and their property

Gangs involved in various criminal activities and their filmy style rivalries are prevalent all over the country more so in developing cities like Mangalore. Such broad daylight murders have taken place even in the seventies when Mangalore was a small city and the state was ruled by the Congress. I don't know why some commentators in this column give a political tone to such incidents, by blaming the Government and the ruling party. It is not even appropriate to put the blame entirely on the police for such unexpected incidents which are beyond anybody's control.

This is nothing new to M'lore, Murdrer's and sword fight's are going on since many year's, Only thing is gangs have changed. There were different noted area's and different type of weapons used, and ther were specialist in some field's, like Soda bottle thrower's, Talwar fighter's, fist expert's etc, etc. There were also gangs to some localities like Monkey Stand, Bajilkeri, Itappa Compound, Naguri, Attavar etc, etc. Even in some colleges fight's were going on between Student's. Some of these thing's are carried out in revenge where one has the full intention of killing one then his only motto is "I have to kill him, and the punishment for me will be death, no problem, may be if I escape death penalty I will be gaining side, anyhow he has to die". with these type of mentality nothing can be done. Anyway if the law and order is strict then only these menace can be controlled.

Comparatively, Managlore City is safe and still peaceful to live with.Due to develoment and emerging mega city,Mangalore need more police force and particularly patrolling police personnel round the clock trough out the city.In this context Police need to have a thought to control such unwanted thing in our MANGALORE.May soul rest in peace.
