Udupi, Apr 24: The foundation stone for the much-awaited City Centre Mall, by Brahmavar Promoters Private Limited, was laid at Brahmavar near here on Tuesday April 24.

Gracing the ceremony Swami Nrasimhashrama of Balekudru Math said that key to success in any field is organized effort coupled with focused energy.

"Every person looks to make profit, but the emphasis should be on the welfare of the people," he said.

Varamballi gram panchayat president S Narayan presided over the programme.

MLA Raghupati Bhat and Udupi Builders Association president Jerry Vincent Dias were the chief guests.

Jerry Vincent Dias in his address said that due to scarcity of land and space flat system started. "As time passed, our needs and necessities were made available under one roof called the 'super market', now we have gone a step further and started shopping centres. Earlier, people of the coastal belt had to go to Dubai, Mumbai, Bangalore and other big cities to experience shopping in super markets and malls. But in recent years the trend is changing with good malls being set up in Mangalore, and in Udupi. This shows Brahmavar is one of the fastest growing places in Udupi district," he said.

On the occasion Ashalatha C Shetty, Jeevan Shetty, Arun Kumar Shetty, Dr Malathi Sooda, Veena M Bhat, Rathna k Shetty, Amitha R Shetty, Vinutha Prabhu, Bhaskar N Shetty, Dayanand Shetty, Aruradha B Rao, Achal Shetty S, directors of the Brahmavar promoters were present.

Chandrashekar Shetty welcomed the gathering. Vikram Prabhu compered the programme.  B M Bhat proposed the vote of thanks.

About City Centre

Spread over one acre of land in the heart of the Brahmavra City, passing through double highway 66, City Centre will be a three-storey building with a shopping mall, business house, restaurant, auditorium and other facilities.

Each floor will occupy 20,000 sq ft of space. Nearly 75 commercial shops will be available in all, out of which three will occupy an area of 4,500 sq ft each for bigger showrooms. Only 60 percent of the land will be using for the Mall building and the remaining will be used for parking and other facilities under the rules of NBC. Four elevators will be available along with four staircases.

The Mall will consist of two wings. Behind the shopping centre there will be a vegetarian and a non-vegetarian family bar and restaurants, a lodge with 40 air-conditioned rooms, two mini air-conditioned halls for conference, and 1,000-capacity marriage hall.

Sanjog Shetty is the architect of the Brahmavar City Centre, and the project is managed by Srusti Consulting Engineering Bureau, Manipal. The work is expected to be completed within 24 months.

This is good for Brahmavar. But Brahmavar seriously lacks basic urban infrastructure like Drainage and Sewege water system, road side drainage, internal roads are very bad. Brahmavar still doesn't have municipality. It is still under "Grama Panchayat" which is not good for Brahmavar's development.

With projects like this comming up within the next decade Mangalore - Udipi will become a twin metropolis spreading from Ullal upto Kundapur. Moodbidri, and Manipal will become satellite cities. I hope adequate planning will be made for infrastructure development like good roads, metro, electricity etc, or else we will land up in one big mess like Bombay.
