Mangalore: Basava Jayanti Celebrated in City

The Basaveshwara Centenary Jayanti was celebrated at Town Hall, here on Wednesday April 24 at 6.30 pm. The event was jointly organized by Dakshina Kannada district administration, Kannada and Culutral Department and Coastal Veerashaiva Keshmabivraddi Sangha.

Sri Girisiddeshwara Shivacharya Swami, Basavanagudi Mangalore blessed the event, while Yogish Bhat inaugurated. Dr S B Yalaburgi, Sharadha Mallappa, Shobha Mallikarjuna Angadi, H V Vedakumar, Harish Kumar, commissioner, MCC, Dayanand, ADC and Dr Narasimha Murthy were present.

Bhat, addressing the gathering after inaugurating the event, said that the day was really an auspicious as it marked three important occasions - Basava Jayanthi, Parashuram Jayanti and Akshaya Tritiya. He explained the importance of Parashuram Jayanti and Akshaya Tritiya as well.

Simple ways to lead a peaceful and successful life are hidden in the Vachanas of Basavanna, Bhat said.

Cultural programmes were also held as part of the event. A large number of people gathered to celebrate.
