Mangalore, Apr 25: Zilla Panchayat social justice committee president Janardhan Gowda opined that the Panchayath Raj system strengthens the weaker section of the society and more efforts are required to implement it effectively.

He was speaking after inaugurating the national ‘Panchayat Raj Day’ programme held at Netravati Hall in DK Zilla Panchayath on Tuesday April 24.

“Though reservation was availed in various sections, advantages are not reaching the needy on the desired note,” he pointed out.
 
Delivering his talk, Mangalore University economics department professor Sripathi Kalluraya said that there was scarcity of food in this country till the 70s and after the Panchayat Raj system was adopted, the situation became better and this year record quantity of food production has been achieved which means agriculture sector in this nation is strong. “In the financial sector, co-operative banks, rural banks, NABARD, and other self-help groups played a predominant role in rural India development,” he said.
 
ZP CEO Dr K N Vijayprakash was the chief guest. ZP vice-president Dhanalaxmi Janardhan presided. ZP members Yashavanthi Alva and Mamatha Gatty were on the stage. ZP chief planning officer Mohammed Nazir welcomed.
