Kasargod, Apr 28: The fisheries unions in the district will stage a massive human chain from Manjeshwar to Valiyaparamba, near here, on Saturday April 28, to urge the state administration to protect the fishermen active in the Arabian Sea.

Manjeshwar MLA P B Abdul Razak will inaugurate the massive human chain at Manjeshwar, near here, at 4.00 pm on Saturday.

Public meetings will be organized at Manjeshwar, Hosabettu, Kumble, Koipady, Kasargod, Kasaba, Kotikulam, Hosdurg, Padanna, and other localities, to seek prominence for the fishermen community in politics, labour, religious, social, cultural and other spheres.

The massive human chain will be organized to urge the state administration to protect the fishermen in the deep sea following the killing of two fishermen by guards of an Italian merchant ship, the death of five fishermen in a collision with a ship, to restrict the movement of ships about 60 nautical miles away from the sea shore and to form a coastal monitoring committee, and to award compensation to the family of the deceased fishermen.
