Bangalore, Apr 30 (DHNS) : The vintage car parade organised by the Karnataka Vintage and Classic Car Club (KVCCC), was flagged off  by Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda at a star hotel on the Race Course Road.

Over 60 classic four-wheelers and 17 motorcycles of the early 20th century participated in the rally.

The 1909 Wolseley, that belonged to the Maharaja of Cooch Behar, the oldest among the vehicles, was a great draw among the people.

Also, in the rally was the 1961 Jaguar E-Type (3800 cc), which was adjudged the first among the ‘100 Beautiful Cars’ of all times in March 2008. The Jaguar MK that belonged to the Maharaja of Udaipur was another great draw at the rally. The latest addition to the vintage collection was the Jaguar Mark 2 with a 3781 cc engine.

“The idea of the rally was to weave immovable and movable heritage together,” said Dr Ravi Prakash, secretary of  KVCCC. The KVCCC is a 33-year-old hobby club comprising 270 members and with an affiliation of 600 cars.

For sheer love

In the past 33 years, numerous classic and vintage car lovers from various parts of Karnataka and even outside of the State have come together at the club for the sheer love of cars, he said.

Dr Prakash bought his Wolseley from the Maharaja of Cooch Behar. The car can cover a distance of 1.25 km in just 47 seconds.

“Looking after my Wolseley is akin to looking after a woman, only that with ‘her’ age come a few hiccups,” added Prakash. He says he developed a keen interest towards vintage cars, after picking up his first Wolseley. He is now a proud owner of 15 vintage cars.

The vintage car rally passed through Cubbon Park, Kasturba Road, MG Road and Trinity Circle. It later proceeded towards Ulsoor Lake through Dickenson Road, Commercial Street and UB City.

It is nice to see these beauties.
They look more charming than Krishma, Deepina etc.
I had owned 4 antique bikes
    1 MATCHLESS 350 CC 1947
    2.TRIUMPH Tiger twin 500CC 1952
    3.BSA Shooting star 350CC 1953
4.Triumph single cylinder with hub drum 1942. 250CC.
I had to sell all of them due to family pressure and difficulty in getting spares. There is only one place where I could get the parts. NASIKWALA at Chor Bazar, Mumbai. Being an engineer, I used to maintain them myself.
While leaving abroad, I used to park them in my bed room.
    I still regret selling them.
Now I own a KAWASAKI NINJA 250DR. 2011 model, 250CC. Black colour. This is the only bike in Mangalore.
I go on a leisurely drive only on Sundays. The drive is exhilarating. Wind on my face, a beauty on the back seat and full power in my hands.
I work in the Navy. So when I leave for job, this bike is in my bed room!. That is how one must treat these ladies (FYI: In the navy we refer ships as a she).
Have a nice all of you.

Nice to see these beautiful vehicles. If these cars are driven on the pothole accompanied roads of Mangalore, they will lose their "Vintage" status. hahahaha...
