Mangalore: From Now On, Shell Out More for Electricity

Mangalore: From Now On, Shell Out More for Electricity

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (BG)

Mangalore, Apr 30: When state minister for power Shobha Karandlaje asked people to use less of ACs and fans to save electricity, she wasn't kidding.

In a news that might well send 'shockwaves' among consumers and really force them to reduce the use of ACs, State Electricity Regulatory Commission chairman M R Srinivasmurhty has announed a hike in electricity.

Citizens will now have to shell out 10 paise for every unit they use up. The new fare hike will come into force with immediate effect.

The hike will be applied throughout the state across all the power companies.

Industries have been burdened with a hike of 20 paise per unit.

The move comes in the wake of increase in electricity demand which has touched 170 million units per day, due to a soar in temperature. This has resulted in a  gap of about 20 million units between supply and demand. The power companies had sought a hike of Rs 73 paise per unit in this regard.

The state is already reeling under frequent power cuts and unscheduled load shedding. The power station in Raichur had to be shut down due to shortage of water, which further worsened matters.

Successive govts were not planned electricity requirement of our state.Electricity is vital for all needs including development. We have very bad management in electricity ministry. There is big discrepancy in supply and official consumption.Electricity line man remove the fuse for failing to pay a month's outstanding bill of a common man?Couple of weeks ago,a news report says, multi lakhs of rupees electricity bill outstanding from DVS/SIDDU.....May be from influential firms also. Incompetent electricity Minister,no foresight of the BJP Govt and internal fighting of BJP made this mess because there are no time to make plan etc etc...Appoint foresighted clean politician for the ministry of electricity.Gujarath has given enough land, investment friendly environmental, uninterrupted supply of electricity etc etc made investors to migrate to Guj instead of Karnataka.Govt of Karnataka as said somebody in Daijiworld as PANAVATHI as we had drought and flood back to back.

    Dear Mr. Nayak,
The issue is the price hike on power. In this context may be the State government has to import power from another State to meet the supply and demand scenario. However kindly note the energy prices round the globe is at its peak. It is a lessons leant for the past 30 to 40 years back from now on by the service provider to have proper planning to reinstate power to consumers. How we plan and do this will be subject to a big question. There are many factors which govern this situation for e.g "the power loss in the existing transmission lines which are old need to be resolved and reliability of power supply needs to be ensured for the prevailing industries and domestic users". It is not the solution provided by our State Energy minister to switch off the fans and lights or heavy domestic equipment to meet the requirements. Of course one should also realize that, no one is interested to waste available energy(power). It is not BJP or Congress or Jantha Dal (S) in this case and no good debating all the previous history. we are all a civilized cultured society and have our responsibilities as appropriate. Hope the State administration will find an amicable potential solution soonest possible to resolve the problem.

When fuel prices are hiked, commentators were blaming central government. Now I want to see their comment.
Being educated citizens, one should understand that there are so many factors for the price rise.It depends greatly on international phenomenon and Economic inflation of the country also.
Thanks god we are still at better position than most of the european countries.
