Mangalore: Bus Drivers Go on Snap Stir to Protest Assault

Mangalore, May 2 (DHNS):
In protest against the assault on a bus driver by Pajeer Gram Panchayat President, at Mithakodi near Mudipu, the service bus drivers and conductors staged a protest by suspending the bus service on Tuesday.

The bus conductors and drivers staged a protest in front of Konaje police station. It was said that Pajeer Gram Panchayat President Nazeer Mohideen had assaulted the bus driver Charlie Pinto for not letting his vehicle to move. Enraged over the incident, the service buses which ply to B C Road and Vittal via Mudipu suspended their service and thus put the passengers to hardship.

The bus employees who staged a protest in Mudipu Junction said “the Gram Panchayat president assaulting a bus driver is a condemnable act. The police should initiate action against him.”  Zilla Panchayat Member Santhosh Kumar Boliar said “as an elected representative, the GP president should not have assaulted the bus driver. There is a need to fight against such injustice.”

The protestors alleged that “this is the third time a bus driver is being assaulted in the region in the last two months. We do not have security.” All the passengers who were waiting for the buses to reach their destinations in B C Road and Vittal, were put to hardship. Some were seen hiring private vehicles to reach the destinations.

The only way to reduce accidents and save some innocent and young lives is by nationalising all routes and introducing KSRTC bus services....Hell to the private lobbies who pay lots of money to the politicians to stay in business...Public transportation bus drivers need to be bashed on and off. Why the truck drivers are not into so many accidents...Law should be changed and the drivers or owners of the bus are to be made responsible for paying damages, compensation and bllod money. I appreciate that at least once in 15 days a rash driver needs to be taken on and bashed for rough and rash driving...and certainly not for not giving the way to any member of public...

Ms. sangeetha, mangalore This is not the one sided view but always heavy vehicle drivers are reckless drivers & killers, when they got heavy vehicles they are thinking that they are the PILOTS one cannot kill them by accident but they are killing thousands of innocent peoples of LMV, motor bike riders & pedestrians. If you thinks "drivers had to face lot of stress because of the competition and short of time bus driving had become a very risky job because of the bad roads too" then let them leave the job and do some other jobs which ever feels better but not to kill others.

Irrespective of religion or community, I appreciate what Mr.Nazeer done.

These drivers need to be thought lesson. Let them to go on strike as long as they want. Authorities should not budge to the union pressure.

These drivers Kill innocent light motor vehicle ocupents & two wheeler riders and give the name of accident.

Well done. They say 3rd time in 2 months. I say if these drivers don't learn lesson then it should be monthly, then weekly and if needed DAILY.

Irony is both Mr.Pinto & Mr. Nazeer from minority community. No one can give communal angle for this. But let the heads stand up and hands raise even driver associated with any group.

It is very unfortunate that people take one sided view. Bus drivers had to face lot of stress because of the competition and short of time. bus driving had become a very risky job because of the bad roads too. why should we blame only the driver conducters?

Both parties might @ fault.Taking law to own hand condemnable. If Bus driver purposefully did not allow LMV(car)to pass for quite long time might be intentional. But report to competent authority and get justice. On the other hand, Village's first need to patient and required to report to competent authority instead of indulging in manhandling which is SHOBE TARUVANTHADALLA.

All these nuisance of the Pvt bus lobby, bus drivers and conductors and their protests will stop and people's lives will be saved. These are unruly creatures on the road and having least respect and basic manners towards other road users. Are you listening our Honourable Transport Minister? If a driver is reckless, complain to RTO through a post card. His licence will suspended.

You condemn BJP minister, but support a Muslim GP President under similar circumstances.

This shows the communal mindset of some readers here.

Mangalore Bus conductors & drivers especially conductors are very rude, speak harsh, no manners. speak vulgar/filthy languages even infront of ladies passenger & try to be over smart, don't care, respect even old aged passengers ,passenger say or comment anything they harsh their words with harrasing/insulting manner and its habitual to say "appujindha jappule". It mean "get down from the bus" and also once I seen there was competition by other bus & conductor using bad words to a doctor who drive a car infront of the bus. I think if gram panchayat president of pajeer Nazeer Mohideen had assaulted the bus driver may there is strong fault by driver and Nazeer could not tolerate.
