Udupi: Girl Gets Second Chance at Life in Vishwasada Mane

Udupi, May 2: Young Shalini (name changed), a student of fashion designing who was admitted for a psychiatric disorder, got a new lease of life after a stint at Home of Faith (Vishwaasada Mane), a rehabilitation centre of Yesupura at Shankarapura in Udupi.
The centre is popularly known for providing shelter to many homeless psychiatric patients who wander on the streets.
Shalini hails from Belgaum and her father is a businessman. Unfortunately, during her studies she was afflictted by mental illness and her life was disrupted. As her health worsened and created problems to the neighbours, the family was forced to vacate their house.
While her father Prakash had no money for further treatment, he approached a Kannada TV channel seeking additional help. When her story of the girl was telecasted, the Centre extended support to the family.
In the month of December she was admitted to ‘Vishwasadha Mane’ for treatment. For months together, she was given treatment by a doctor. "God’s grace, continuous prayer, love, and care by the colleagues helped her to recover early," said Pastor Sunil D'Souza, "Now her father has taken her back home. The trust has been taking care of the patients free of cost mainly with the support of the donors."
Shalini is among hundreds of rehabilitants who are sent home after recovery. There are as many as 150 destitutes irrespective of their age, sex or creed, who treated with equal love and care. Presently, it is run by Pastor Sunil John D’Souza along with a staff of 25 caretakers.
