Mangalore, May 3: Police on Thursday May 3 raided a gambling hub at Balmatta here and arrested two persons.

Acting on a tip-off, Kadri police along with city crime branch inspector Venkatesh Prasanna raided a shop on the basement floor of Smart Towers.

The shop is unoccupied with no signboard and with its shutters down all the time. However, unknown to neibouring shops and residents, gambling was going on.

The gamblers used to enter and exit the shop through a rear door. On Thursday when police swooped down on them they ran out through the back door.

Out of some 12 people, two were caught while 10 others managed to escape.

Speaking to Daijiworld, an eyewitness said, "The shop is closed all the time. We never knew there was gambling going on inside. We came to know of it only now when we saw around 10 persons running away."

All the 12 persons are said to be in their mid-20s.

The police seized gambling materials like playing cards from the spot. Glass pieces were strewn on the floor, indicating that the panes would have broken when the persons dashed against them while trying to flee.

Interestingly, soon after the police left the spot, one of the gamblers came back to collect his slipper which had been left behind in the hurry to escape!

This raid took place all because HAFTHA was not given on time. How can the gambling hub run when the front door was closed and gamblers would sneek behind the back door. That too only two were caught and ten escaped. It is hard to believe. Corruption is at the highest level.

Out of 12/2 were caught!!!!This place was under the scanner of public for long time and police were getting Hafta for that.People tried to fix them through police several times but invain. Two days before local paper graphically narrated the gambling center and after that,FIXED raid might took place.Don't think that police unaware of the gambling place in Mangalore or any other police station limits.
