Udupi: Lottery Fraud - In Hope of Getting Rs 8 Crore, Man Loses Rs 8 Lac!

Udupi, May 5: Talk of taking the 'fizz' out of someone's dream, that too in the name of a cola company.
A man from Gundibail here has been cheated of Rs 8 lac in the name of Coca Cola company's 'lottery'.
As is the procedure always, the man received an e-mail stating that he had won 10 lac Great Britain pounds (Rs 8 crore) in lottery. Believing the claim, Panduranga Nayak of Ammunje in Gundibail responded to the e-mail and followed the procedures, ending up losing Rs 8 lac instead of winning Rs 8 crore.
Panduranga has lodged a complaint against persons named Muhter Kent, Steve Walter, Smith Gore and Robert Muller who allegedly called him on his phone and swindled lacs.
On March 14, Panduranga received an e-mail claiming that he had won Rs 8 crore bumper prize in lottery. Thereafter, from March 26 to April 18, he received instructions to pay for 'charges' incurred in remitting the prize money to him. As many 12 times, he was asked to send money to bank accounts on excuses like Delhi Airport fee, Arab currency conversion, tax clearance, anti-terrorist certificate, flight charges, police clearance, police release etc. This way, Panduranga ended up paying Rs 8,00,300 to unknown persons.
Finally, when he was asked to pay for 'documents Ministry of France', he responded that he had no more money with him and was allegedly abused. Only then did realization dawn upon him.
A case has been registered under sections 166/12, 420 under IPC and 66(a)(c) of IT Act.
