Udupi: Lottery Fraud - In Hope of Getting Rs 8 Crore, Man Loses Rs 8 Lac!

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi

Udupi, May 5: Talk of taking the 'fizz' out of someone's dream, that too in the name of a cola company.

A man from Gundibail here has been cheated of Rs 8 lac in the name of Coca Cola company's 'lottery'.

As is the procedure always, the man received an e-mail stating that he had won 10 lac Great Britain pounds (Rs 8 crore) in lottery. Believing the claim, Panduranga Nayak of Ammunje in Gundibail responded to the e-mail and followed the procedures, ending up losing Rs 8 lac instead of winning Rs 8 crore.

Panduranga has lodged a complaint against persons named Muhter Kent, Steve Walter, Smith Gore and Robert Muller who allegedly called him on his phone and swindled lacs.

On March 14, Panduranga received an e-mail claiming that he had won Rs 8 crore bumper prize in lottery. Thereafter, from March 26 to April 18, he received instructions to pay for 'charges' incurred in remitting the prize money to him. As many 12 times, he was asked to send money to bank accounts on excuses like Delhi Airport fee, Arab currency conversion, tax clearance, anti-terrorist certificate, flight charges, police clearance, police release etc. This way, Panduranga ended up paying Rs 8,00,300 to unknown persons.

Finally, when he was asked to pay for 'documents Ministry of France', he responded that he had no more money with him and was allegedly abused. Only then did realization dawn upon him.

A case has been registered under sections 166/12, 420 under IPC and 66(a)(c) of IT Act.

    Dear Friends,
Please don't be a prey to such emails. This is a lessons learnt from Sri Ammunje Panduranga Nayak. ALL the culprits look for his or hers account number and finally they wipe your account through their tricks. Similar emails from Africa come indicating they want to transfer a big ransack to his or hers account. Please don't be a victim of these emails. It is enough one gets money through a hard earned way. I am ver soory to note the loss of Sri Ammunje Panduranga Nayak, which shouldn't have happened. As per European policy nothing is free and easy in this world.

Sad to note that an educated man like Panduranga has become victim of fraudster. The Government and Reserve Bank of India has been repeatedly cautioning the people about such frauds. There is no end for greed. The result loss of big money. Its a warning to all such people who crave for easy money.

Till the unmatured fools like Rahul Rao exists this will going to happen. People should realise, with out participating in scheme or purchasing Lottery tickets, how you will win lottery prize? . It is common every day we receive mails & SMS from unknown people. Still we believe them & without getting any document how we can pay any money? If a begger comes to your compound gate you chase him out or think twice to pay him 1 rupee.

Blaming State Government or Central Government is foolishness. We have to be alert for such frauds.

High time government advertise against such scam mails in the news papers insted of blowing own trumphet by spending millions of tax payers money!! Govt mainly state should spend money to educate people by means of advertiserments!! Media too should write regular articles against such lottery and very high interst rates and fraud investment lures!!

We are getting lot of mails for all lottery winning but never tried to reply on this. Now How come this person has adjusted 8lakhs for this silly email???? How can the people blame govt and leagal dept??? This is our mistake to make money in indirect method and boosting these. If a person arranged Rs. 8/-lakh for the fees should have the ability to arrange 8 crores also because anything can be done. Blaming others is like making fool ourselves where this guy become fool and it is shame to all of us. Lets try to earn the money by hard and not in this way

    Hi,

May I request Daijiworld's intervention in this regard...

This in the way of having announcements at Churches / mosques / temples about such frauds.

Hope I am not asking for too much, but then as the Central Govt. is trying to do its best through adverts. on TV there is need for messages of being cautious about such fraudster mails going out right to each and every one.

If you all have not experienced this... mails are coming from a similar looking Income Tax Dept. site ( which looks perfectly genuine) giving you the exact details of the IT refund expected by you when you had filed your returns, thereby making one believe it is true... but then by this the fraudster / cheater tracks all your bank a/c's to cheat you.

    Kind Regards

    Aladdin Pais

Even i got similar message in my mobile, and i responed them with carefully. After few weeks they send the certificate of cash money which was credited in my name with one of the bank in Europe. Interestly i checked with the concerned bank in Europe with several emails, and even i told them about the scam they make in the name of their bank( with scanned copy of certificate issued). That bank even not bothered to inform me about the possible fraud in issuing cerrficate in my name. It seems that even some of the staff in concerned banks are also indireclty involved in such scams. Otherwise bank would have send me the caution reply for the certificate issued in my name. one thing we should always think that without benefit no one will make business even for just 1 paise. Hence dont be greedy for money which is not belong to us.

The lottary information advises that you have won a prize, but you did not enter or buy any lottary ticket then how you can win the prize?....! In another case recently a software engineer lost Rs. 2 lakh in Bangalore. Fraud happened in most of the educated peoples only. Why these fraud SMS,Messages only in India?
Key tips:- a) You can't win a prize in a lottery you haven't bought or been given a ticket for.
    b) Legitimate lotteries don't ask for funds in advance of paying out prize money.
    c) Never proide personal identify information, bank accounts, address to a company or person you do not know.
    d) Keep on mind if you receive sms/messages in your mobiles you win lottery that means 100% fraud.

I feel sorry for this man. We all receive these kind of scam messages. I wish he had discussed with some friends before parting with all those so called 'fees' involved in getting the prize delivered. Nothing can be done done. Many gullible people around the world fall for these scams. Once I got a letter from Spain telling me that I had won a Zillion Euros. I wrote to them thanking for their honesty and asked them to debit all the fees involved, keep 10% for themselves and send the rest of the money to me. It's been 2 years and I am still waiting for the cheque!!
If you get any mail or messages, just google and you can get all the information about the related scams.
