Bangalore, May 7: On the lines of reservation in rural local bodies, the State Cabinet on Monday has decided to provide 50 per cent reservation for women in all urban local bodies by amending the Karnataka Municipalities Act, 1964 and Karnataka Municipal Corporations Act, 1976.

Already, 50 per cent of seats have been reserved for women in gram, taluk, and zilla panchayats in the State.

Addressing presspersons after a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs S Suresh Kumar said two acts would be amended in the next session of the State legislature to reserve 50 per cent of the seats for women in city corporations, city municipal councils, town municipal councils and town panchayats.

To survey and documentation of properties, the Cabinet has decided to implement Urban Property Ownership Record (UPOR) in 50 wards of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike.

Already the project was under implementation in Mysore, Shimoga, Mangalore and Hubli-Dharwad.

The project would be implemented on a PPP model with an expenditure of Rs 9.48 crore and the Government would spend Rs 4.74 crore. It would be implemented in two zones of the BBMP.

Now, there are 16 lakh properties in the city and the number would touch to 21 lakh after assessing all properties.

Suresh Kumar said the project would create a definitive and authentic record comprising all details pertaining to the property, and would curtail land encroachment and fraudulent transactions of properties.
