Udupi: Married Woman Sets Herself Ablaze, Dies

Udupi, May 7: A depressed woman who was married and had a four-year-old child allegedly committed suicide in the bathroom of her house at Polipu, Uliyaragoli village of Kaup gram panchayat here on Monday May 7 morning.
 
The deceased has been identified as 29-year-old Gayatri Rao, a native of Nelagunda in Gadag district and wife of Raghupati Rao, a native of Polipu. Raghupati had married Gayatri 5 years ago and the couple has a four-year-old child.

Gayatri is said to have committed suicide by setting herself on fire, when Raghupati had gone to fetch milk on Monday morning. 

When Raghupati returned, he saw his wife engulfed in flames in the bathroom.  Though Raghupati tried to douse the fire and save her, she died of multiple burns. In the process, Raghupati's clothes too caught fire but he managed to take them off on time.
 
S P Dr Boralingayya, tahsildar Abhijin, circle inspector Shivanand Valikar, and Kaup sub-inspector Gowri Shankar visited the spot.
 
Kaup police have registered a case in this regard.
