“Dubai traffic police also decided to impound the man’s vehicle for 360 days,” the paper said, adding that the unidentified driver is in his 30s.

Dubai police impound BMW for Dh127,000 in traffic fines

The Dubai Traffic Police have impounded a BMW from the Al Barsha area with traffic fines totaling Dh127,000.

According to a report in Al Bayan, fines of Dh95,000 are from Dubai, while fines of Dh32,000 are from the emirates of Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and Ajman.

Major General Mohammed Saif Al Zaffin, Director General of Dubai Traffic Department at Dubai Police, said that the vehicle committed more than 80 radar violations in addition to a number of other offenses - all dealing with excessive speed.

He said: “Dubai police issued a notice to seize the car due to the accumulation of fines and one of the patrols seized the vehicle from Al Barsha.

“The department contacted with the owner of the vehicle and it was discovered that she is an Emirati living in Abu Dhabi, but working in Dubai.”
The BMW is a 2011 model.

Major General Zaffin said the owner of the car has a Dh15,000 salary and is not able to pay the fines.

“Despite the conditions experienced by the young lady where she is forced to travel every day to Dubai from Abu Dhabi, there is no excuse for these many offenses,” he said.

Major General Al Zaffin added that another Emirati lady was contacted by the department yesterday over Dh5,000 in traffic fines racked up in a very short time.

He added that she justified her violations as she lives in Sharjah and works in the western region, travelling three hours a day to and from work, forcing her to speed.
