Mangalore, May 8: Five prisoners were injured after an altercation broke out between two rival groups in the district sub-jail here on Tuesday May 8.

Among the injured are Mazhar, Konchady Munna and Pradeep. All the five have been admitted to a hospital with injuries on the head.

The fight reportedly broke out between the accused in the murder case of Kanchan Textiles manager Dinesh Raj and those accused in the murder of Banglegudde Sulaiman

Sources said that the fight between the two groups was communal in nature.

Earlier in the day at around 6.30 am, a similar fight had taken place among the prisoners in which one was injured.

Mr.Max..Gangwars,prison fights are common in all jails, whether it is BJP ruled state or Congress ruled state or Communists ruled state. In Mumbai jail, there are separate cells for Dawood gang and Chota Rajan gang members. If someone from Rajan gang is kept in Dawood gang members cell,KHALLAS...They will make him Biryani ! Vice Versa.Sometimes D group or Rajan group members bribe police so that rival gang member to be kept in their cell ! Like that,Chota Rajan's right hand O.P.Singh was murdered in jail.

Having been fully acquainted with the Prison Ministry in Texas, we all have to sympathise with the tensions, rivalries, hatreds and personal animosities that prevail behind the prison bars. The prisoners deliberately invite anger within themselves because of the circumstances that prevail within the four high walls and the barriers that exist each and every prison that contains hundreds of convicts of all crimes that are imprisoned for short and long durations under severe conditions. Prison are meant to be for prisoners in order to reconcile themselves.

Each prisoner in the United States costs average US $ 45 per each passing day which the tax payers have to shoulder regardless. Inspite of the best facilities rendered to them, prisoners always have some reason to quarrel and create more disturbance for any negligible cause. This is where volunteerism from the Prison Ministry hailing from different organizations can play an important role whereby the Prison Security staff is not overburdened with too much of daily tensions within the inmates.

Different faith-based groups can create so many programs that can bring various Educational, religious and social interactions from time to time so that inmates can receive timely comforts in order to avoid internal rivalries and conflicts and maintain a smooth and harmonious environment behind the prison bars and prison walls.

Prison Ministries throughout America have brought a climate of peace and harmony not only within the inmates but also within the Security staff so that all of them realize the value of mutual respect for each other regardless of their crimes, their faiths or even their genders.

We are prepared to sponsor a Toastmasters Club within the prison system so long as some of them can speak reasonable English and learn to communicate with each other as leaders of their own destiny behind the bars and the barbed wires.
