Dubai: KEL Conducts World Class MBTI Workshop
Media Release
Dubai, May 9: Continuing its endeavor of providing quality programs to its members, KEL Dubai recently conducted the MBTI workshop at the Arabian Courtyard Hotel Dubai.
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a personality test to assist a person in identifying significant personal preferences. Katharine C Briggs and her daughter Isabel Briggs Myers developed the indicator during World War II and its criteria follow on from Karl Jung’s theories in his work; “ Psychological Types”. The MBTI questionnaire is the most widely used personality questionnaire worldwide in developing managers/leaders, career guidance and even marriage counseling. It is based on over 50 years research and development and is used in 172 countries worldwide.
The theme of the training program was ‘Understand Self to Understand Others’. The workshop was conducted by Dr Nelson D’Souza, a certified MBTI practitioner. Dr D’Souza holds a Masters in Human Resources and a Doctorate in Social Sciences and has over 20 years international experience in Industry and Academia. Dr D’Souza has been a visiting faculty at premier Business schools for over 15 years. He is currently heading the Leadership and Management Development function at Emirates NBD – a leading bank in the middle east and has closely worked with Duke CE, INSEAD, Harvard and IE Business Schools.
The MBTI workshop was delivered in an interactive and experiential way. Participants went through a journey of discovery of their personality and were able to apply their learning to day to day life. It was a full day workshop; each of the participants had opportunity to make a presentation to the other participants. International case studies and findings were presented by Dr D’Souza to support the theory.
The workshop had several takeaways. Besides experiencing a world class psychometric assessment tool and training material (imported from United States), it provided participants an opportunity to understand:
• What are their preferences in dealing with day to day situations
• What are their gifts and how to use them in their development
• What careers attract their personality
• How their behavior impacts others
• Why people respond differently to the same situation
• How to resolve conflict and enhance communication
• How to be in peace with oneself and build effective relationships
In order to derive the maximum benefit, the workshop was restricted to 25 members only. There were people from all walks of life - entrepreneurs, professionals, men and women, youngsters and senior citizens, etc. The participants had ample opportunity to reflect, interact and present their views.
From the feedback that was compiled by the organizers, the participants reported that they greatly benefitted by attending the workshop. Over 90% rated the experience as outstanding.
Some of the quotes from the feedback are as follows:
‘Great Presentation Skills, Structure and Content’ said Santosh Pais, Manager at 3M Dubai.
‘I wasn't sure if I wanted to attend the event but I am extremely glad I did’ said another participant.
Encouraged with this success and to provide an opportunity to those who missed, KEL intends to have batch 2 of the workshop for its members which will be held on 2nd June 2012.
There are limited seats available for the second batch and those who are interested may write to our Director Membership on directormembership.dub@keglobal.org.
