Mangalore, May 10: A house in Vas Lane here was partially charred in a fire that broke out following a short circuit in the air conditioner.

The incident occured on the evening of Thursday May 10 in a house belonging to Rafiya Koya, wife of Kunhi Ahmed Koya.

It is said that Ahmed Koya left for Bangalore on work on Wednesday May 9.

On Thursday, Rafiya, who was alone in the house was watching television in her bedroom, keeping the AC on.

The power went off for sometime, and when it was back again, a short circuit developed in the AC which sparked off the fire.

Initially, Rafiya was unaware of the fire. Her neighbour Mani noticed fire in the AC outlet on the outside, and rushed to her house. He banged on her door and when Rafiya opened, instantly brought her out to safety.

The fire spread to two bedrooms, damaging the AC, television, wooden furnishing and several valuable items. The estimated loss is said to be around Rs 25 lac, though the exact figure is yet to be ascertained.

Pandeshwar fire brigade rushed to the spot with two fire engines and managed to douse the fire.

Very sad to hear of this unfortunate happening. May God bless the family & build their home.

Nice to hear of friendly neighbours coming to the rescue. Otherwise, the occupant would have been trapped.
