Bangalore: Yeddyurappa Welcomes CBI Probe, Congress Wants BJP Govt to Go

Bangalore, May 11 (PTI): An embattled former Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa today welcomed the Supreme Court order for a CBI probe into illegal mining and donations received by his family-run trust from mining firms.

"The Supreme Court has ordered probe into illegal mining that pertained to my tenure as Chief Minister. I request the Prime Minister to order CBI probe into the issue since 2000 till my regime," Yeddyurappa told reporters on the sidelines of a function at Nanjangud near Mysore.

"Political conspiracy hatched against me has made me an accused in illegal mining though it is I who stopped it. I am facing the trouble after doing good work. I know how to come out of this political labyrinth," Yeddyurappa claimed.

He, however, said "I welcome the Supreme Court decision".

Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, who shared the dais with Yeddyurappa at the function, expressed optimism that his predecessor will come clean in all the cases.

The High Court has quashed the Lokayukta report on illegal mining on Yeddyurappa, he pointed out.

"It is left to the BJP high command to decide on what position should be given to Yeddyurappa," Gowda said in response to a query.

Soon after the Supreme Court order, Opposition Congress leader in the state assembly Siddaramaiah demanded dissolution of the Karnataka assembly.

"The BJP government has no moral right to continue in office. The BJP high command should ask its party to dissolve the state assembly and seek fresh mandate," Siddaramaiah said in Mysore.

Former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy too welcomed the Supreme Court verdict, and remarked "it is a lesson for all those who misuse power".

Meanwhile, supporters of Yeddyurappa including MLAs are likely to hold a meeting in the city by this evening after their leaders return from Mysore.

I am so dejected that SC has ordered CBI probe in yeddy's dealings when in power - I like his words "I welcome the SC's decision" - wow
does he have any choice except say that - I think SC is wrong in their decision - see what yeddy says - he was responsible to stop the rampant, illegal mining!! during is tenure as CM (it was at it's peak when he was CM) - yes I can understand his request to PM to investigate (CBI probe) from year 2000 - that means he is not denying he was heavily involved in illegal mining scam and now he wants those heads of his predecessors as well - I fully agree with him on this - why only him - his earlier counterparts should be under CBI probe also. They are not any better - but Yeddy is the best - he had brains from AP rhyming with his name -Reddies -
But one dog is barking now - who was all this time quiet - chained - siddaramaiah - Does he think he is better than yeddy? At least Yeddy has guts and has a fair lady with him - this congress buggers like sidda/moily /oscar to name some are as useless as BJP ministers - I request all of u to watch and hear on utube - Manjunath talking then you can understand the standard of our ministers
