Bangalore: Yeddyurappa to Take Final Call on his Future by Evening

Bangalore, May 14 (PTI) : The political crisis in the ruling BJP in Karnataka today loomed large with rebel leader and former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa deciding to take a final call on his future political course by this evening.

"I will consult MPs, MLAs and my supporters today and announce my decision by 4 PM", Yeddyurappa, who has been fuming at BJP central leadership for "ignoring" him, particularly after the Supreme Court order for a CBI probe into illegal mining during his tenure as chief minister, told reporters.

Yeddyurappa, who visited Siddganga mut pontiff Shivakumara Swamiji of the Lingayat community to which he belongs, attacked BJP General Secretary H N Anantkumar, State unit chief K S Eshwarappa, chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda and RSS leader Satish.

He accused Anantkumar of "feeding malicious information" about him to BJP leader L K Advani.

"Anantkumar made efforts to topple me from the chief ministership at least thrice earlier with the help of mine owners", Yeddyurappa alleged.

In a damage-control bid, Eshwarappa today ruled out accepting resignations of more than half a dozen MLAs and dropping ministers loyal to Yeddyurappa.

"There is truth in the fact that about more than half a dozen MLAs and ministers have tendered resignation to Yeddyurappa. However, the party will neither accept their resignations nor drop any ministers," he told reporters.

Meanwhile, MLAs and Ministers loyal to Yeddyurappa met at a breakfast meeting at his Race Course residence where the consultation process has begun.

Sources close to Yeddyurappa claim that he has been toying with the idea of quitting BJP, a development that would threaten the survival of the four-year-old BJP government, the first ever in the South.

Eight ministers loyal to Yeddyurappa have already handed over their resignation letters to their leader.

In another development, the BJP central leadership has reportedly rejected Yeddyurappa's demand for change in the leadership of Sadananda Gowda. Minister for Power Shobha Karandlaje, who was sent as Yeddyurappa's emissary to hold talks with BJP Central Leadership is, returning empty handed.

As a last effort to save the situation, Eswarappa said the entire BJP was with Yeddyurappa. Eswarappa's parleys with Yeddyurappa yesterday have failed to end the crisis.

In the 225-member Assembly, BJP has a strength of 120. Yeddyurappa claims to have the support of at least nine ministers and 45 MLAs.

Eshwarappa also said he has not received the resignation letters either from the ministers or the MLAs. "I have been in touch with these MLAs and ministers and I am telling confidently as the state party chief that they will not quit," he said.

On Yeddyurappa praising Congress President Sonia Gandhi and her party for being supportive of leaders facing trouble "unlike" his own party, Eshwarappa said BJP leadership had never left any of their leaders including L K Advani, Narendra Modi, Madan Lal Khurana and Uma Bharti in the lurch during crisis.

The BJP leadership had always stood behind Yeddyurappa and expressed hope that he would come out clean in the illegal mining case, Eshwarappa said.

He also said he failed to understand the reason for Yeddyurappa to praise Sonia Gandhi and her party. "I would like to make it clear that all BJP leaders, including central leaders are with Yeddyurappa," Eshwarappa said.

"I think Yeddyurappa is giving such statements (praising Sonia Gandhi) out of pain. There is no question of Yeddyurappa quitting the party," he said.

Eswarappa also believed the crisis would be resolved soon.Former Minister H Halappa told the press before entering Yeddyurappa's residence that he would follow the foot steps of his leader. "I will resign if Yeddyurappa resigns", he said.

Former legislator and Chairman of Karnataka Handloom Development Corporation M D Lakshminarayana was seen making appeals to BJP High Command to ensure that Yeddyurappa remains in BJP.

How can you forget Sita? Without Sita, Yedyy/cheddies cannot function.
Then you forgot Palemar - someone has to do the video recording (who has better experience than him) and forward to other BJP members/Ministers/High Command. - Donot rule him out of the group - he will suffer big loss, as this one will be a high profile video recording.
Lately, Yeddy is sweating profusely which was not happening earlier - even when the temperatures were above normal - wonder why - any idea. I see him looking over his shoulders every now and then - and even every direction with anxiety - as if someone is following him or coming to arrest him
He never showed, any time before, this kind of nervousness!!!!!

Frankly speaking the BJP central leadership should totally ignore him. He is like barking dog which never bites. Why he has to wait till evening. May be waiting for a call fro Congis. Let him leave the party with his chamchas. Even if BJP looses power in Karnataka because of his resignation, I think BJP may come out with flying colours in the next election.

If BJP central leadership cannot solve this deadlock among the leaders, even the staunch supporters will have to think twice to vote the party in future. If the BJP's central leadership is scared that the dissidents may cause the collapse of the government, take a lesson from Sonia Gandhi who never compromises with the traitors who put their personal interests before the Nation and the Party.

Rakesh Shetty,is it small matter that every intervals there were stand stills in govt functioning which takes 30 to 45 days to restore normalcy !!!......How many times in four years it(BJP) went for a coma?Voters had no option to express their anger other than helplessly watching episode after episode like famous TV serial.

By the by I did forget to mention the situation of RAJASTAN which is typical like Karnataka in which 60-70 MLAs showed their allegiance to Sindhia instead of BJP and hence resigned with her.Under the circumstance BJP struggles to keep it's identity intact which is major development in recent months..

Mr Rakesh Shetty, you are absolutely right. BJP is running on crutches for "support". Very soon it will be on ventilator, and wheeled into emergency.
Even the people who voted for this Bharatiya Jagalaganta Paksha are sicke and tired of this party, and will vote them out!

What is GUV doing in the RAAJ Bhavan?Did he no see that there is no effective govt Karnataka? What a chaos and confusion in Karanataka!!

Just Compare 3 states of BJP ruling

      1) Modi.....good going but communal in nature..If Modi dissents like Yeddy then BJP perish in GUJ....

2)Chattisgad....Raman Singh..Good governance with clean image sticking to BJP principles..

      3) Karnataka.. Too much corruptions, bad governance(due to factional feud) indiscipline-unlimited...BJP sans Yeddy no BJP!!!!

Above just comparison to know the general Public that BJP not remains as single party as all three states having their own set up...so we can sum up as all three sates has BJP's franchise only!

One thing is sure, Edyurappa will not leave BJP. He knows better than none, in the event of deserting BJP tag no one will be around him except few cronies. BJP also not in a mood to go for fresh elections, which they are likely to loose without Yeddie at the front. All possible patch-work to retain power in Karnataka is the buzz word at the moment. Yeddie will give sleepless nights to DVS till the latter give up the post!!
