Mangalore, May 15: Drama and movie director Vijaykumar Kodialbail has been elected as the president of Belli Mandala Film Society for the year 2012-13, informed P Nithyananda Rao here at a press conference held on Tuesday May 15.
Belli Mandala Film Society is active in city since 3 years, arranging the shows of art movies for the interested people. S M Shivaprakash and Prof H Jayanth were elected as the vice-presidents, U Prakash Shenoy as the secretary, P Nithyananda Rao, Jagadeesh S, Karunakar Balkur as the joint secretaries, Jyothi M Bhat as a treasurer.
Speaking on the occasion president Vijaykumar Shetty said that every third Saturday of the month, movies will be shown in Bharatheeya Vidya Bhavan at 5.30pm, with the purpose of inculcating the habit of watching good movies. The show will be free for public. He said Tulu drama with comedy as common genre in the region had resulted in drastic decline of viewers as ‘art’ movies which could gain back its previous popularity by this move.
On May 19, ‘Gaggara’, directed by Shivadwaj will be shown at Bharatheeya Vidya Bhavan. Kodialbail requested all the people to come in large numbers to watch the movie and said if the response was good, arrangements could be made in Town Hall in future to show the movies.
Prof H Jayanth, Jagadeesh S R Shankar were also present on the occasion.
