Mangalore, May 18: Activists of the youth congress staged an intense protest in front of the DC’s office against the rising corruption in the state government on Thursday May 17.
Under the leadership of Mithun Rai, president of district youth congress, Mangalore Unit, protest was staged around 11am in front of the DC’s office.
The party workers tried to get into the premises of the office. But as the protestors had not asked for the prior permission the main gates were closed stopping them from entering the office. They shouted slogans against the poor rule of the government and asked to resign it if they are not able to govern it properly.
When the police tried to forcefully close the main gate Mithun Rai sustained injury to his leg which provoked heated war of words between the protestors and the police.
The government does not seem to be bothered regarding the Lokayukta post which is vacant from months, said Mithun Rai.
Due to this the local authorities have taken the law for granted and act as according to their whims and fancies, he added.
The problem of BPL ration cards distribution, drought in the state and the plight of the farmers is not taken seriously, he continued.
Ivan D’Souza, Praveen Alva, Suresh Ullal, Shashidhar Hegde, Nagendra Kumar, Merryl Rego among many other youth congress leaders were present during the protest.
