Moodbidri: Alva's High School Student Prajwal S Tops in SSLC Kannada Medium in State

Moodbidri, May 18: Dakshina Kannada has another reason to cheer up, while Navya R Shetty was the first in Englsih medium catergory, Prajwal S of Alva’s High School, Moodbidri bags the first place in Kannada medium category of SSLC exams by scoring the total of 613 (98.09).
Prajwal hails from the Andinje taluk of Belthangady from a poor family. He is a son of Shridhar Poojary and Sujatha. His father works in a petty shop and mother rolls beedi. Including the two other siblings, grandfather and grandmother, there are as many as 10 people living together in one house.
He studied his primary schooling in Andinje Government School. He scored 98% even in his 7 standard examinations.
In the year 2009-2010, Alva’s Education Foundation began Kannada medium school wherein financially poor but bright students were admitted for schooling without taking any fees or other miscellaneous expenses. These students were given food, accommodation, uniform, books and stationery for their studies without any charge.
The head master and teachers like Shiva Shankar, Amritha Joshi and others motivated me, said Prajwal.
"I am grateful to Dr Mohan Alva in adopting me for free education", said Prajwal. "I prepared a time table for myself. In the evenings I use to study Hindi and Kannada. After the food I learnt social studies and mathematics. In the morning I usually read science and English", he recalled.
The atmosphere of quietness in the hostel also motivated him to sit and study well. Apart from studies, he also developed the habits such as drawing, quizzing and other extra curricular activities.
He wants to take up science in future and make a career in engineering.
