Delhi Police Arrest RCB Cricketer Luke Pomersbach

New Delhi, May 18 (Times Now) : Another huge controversy on Friday (May 18) struck the IPL with an Australian player with Royal Challengers Bangalore being arrested on charges of molesting an Indian American woman and severely attacking her fiancee leaving him in hospital. 27-year-old Australian player Luke Pomersbach allegedly misbehaved with the woman, a US citizen of Indian origin, at the Maurya Sheraton Hotel here last night and has been arrested, police said.

A case has been registered against him under various sections of IPC including section 354 of IPC (outraging modesty of woman), 323 (hurt), 454 (lurking house trespass) and 511 (Punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment). The woman said the player invited himself for some drinks with the couple and some common friends from Mumbai in their room.

She left the men alone and went to her bedroom for catching some sleep but Luke followed her and misbehaved with her, she alleged. When her fiancee intervened, Luke allegedly beat him up, she said. The woman's fiancee has been admitted to a hospital. The woman claimed that pressure is being mounted on her to withdraw the case but she will not do so. IPL Chairman Rajiv Shukla said the IPL had nothing to with this because the incident did not take place in any party organised by it.
"Let the law take its course"  he said.

Denying the charge that IPL was full of controversies, Shukla said IP 4 and 5 were free of controversies till now. However, BJP MP and former cricketer Kirti Azad alleged that the IPL "has given rise to many unsavoury things. Today's attempt to rape is one such". He said foreign players were taking advantage of the conditions here. The IPL was rocked by controversy only yesterday when Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan faced the prospect of being banned from the Wankhede Stadium after an alleged scuffle with Mumbai Cricket Association officials.

Then why just because of an incident or two you want the entire show down. Your saying asif if there is a daily fight between husband & wife, according to you they must divorce immediately.

Games are for recreation and not necessary to ban any games just because there few hooligans or people with money power, behave worse than animals. There are incident even footballers or sportsmen behaved worse like this Australian or Sharuk. These guys should be given severe punishment, so others can learn lesson for their life time. But who would do that, that too in India ?

There seems to be something fishy in the episode. The cricketer was invited to the room in the hotel when husband and friend or friends were present and all were having drinks and the girl went to sleep ``leaving men alone" and the player allegedly ``followed her to the room and attempted to molest. So what was the husband doing, drinking? The husband supposedly intervened later! Was there some sort of encouragement earlier in conversation, touch or behaviour that led to the player to misbehave? The incident needs to be thoroughly investigated and truth should come out. Why blame anybody without knowing the full facts? This is not to justify or defend the man. But what were this couple doing with a stranger in their hotel room? Even if a person is having drinks with a friend in the presence of his own wife, would he invite a perfect stranger to have drinks?

"case has been registered against him under various sections of IPC..." why do people forget this sections when so many girls and children get raped in India, just because they are only of Indian origin and do not hold any US passport...or just because they don't get molested in Sheraton.. really sad

When IPL started, I still remember the blah blahs of BCCI officials that they are setting it up to give a chance to young budding talents from India and help them to play in National team. Well, I haven't really seen any young Indian talent rising up because of IPL. Most of the time, foreign players dominated IPL in all seasons i guess.
