Bangalore : 'Whistleblower' KAS Officer Succumbs to Injuries

Bangalore, May 20 (PTI): Five days after he was allegedly attacked, a Karnataka Administrative Service Officer, said to be a whistleblower in some controversial land allotments by societies, died at a private hospital today.

S P Mahantesh, whose condition turned critical yesterday, died following a cardiac arrest, hospital sources said.

"Mahantesh heart stopped at 5.30 AM. We tried our best to revive him, but failed", a doctor, who refused to be named, said.

48-year-old Mahantesh, who suffered head injuries in the alleged attack by unidentified persons on May 15, had been on life support system since the last two days.

He was found unconscious near a hotel here while returning home in his car and shifted to the hospital after passersby noticed him and informed his family.
The KAS officer, known for his integrity, was working as Deputy Director of the Audit wing in the state's Cooperative department and had reported irregularities in different societies involving some officials and political figures.

Police have formed a special team to track down the culprits, but so far remained clueless.

This is the second death of an official of the state government after an Assistant Conservator of Forest, Madan Naik, who was assaulted by a group of tourists at Dandeli in Uttara Kannada district on May 6.

Naik was attacked when he objected to the tourists feeding crocodiles in a private resort.

The government has ordered CID probe into Naik's death and the police have arrested six persons in this connection.

You are perturbed by seeing BJP Govt's success. During Congress rule do you know how many KAS officers were killed?

You are only good in finding fault with BJP. Terrorists are killing innocent army men and UPA is keeping mum. Do you have any answers for that? Why do not you look at congress karmas?

Central Government should bring strong law against state governments to protect the whistle blowers and honest IAS Officers. Where ever BJP ruled state governments are there they killed whistle blowers and IAS Officers for example Shehla Masood and IPS Narendra Kumar in Madhya Pradesh and KAS in Karnataka. Honest officers and whistle blowers cannot live peacefully in the BJP ruled states. JAI HO Kar-Nataka

    Dear Ismail Perinje
Pakisthan has eaten almost half of J& K after its formed more than 50 years agao. Now more than half of it is not represented in maps of India if you buy a map anywhere ?. Will you blame your favorite congress (whihc is quite reasonable) who ruled country for more than 50 years or like a hypicrite will aks what did NDA do for those 4 or 5 years when they were in power ?
You guys are used to relate each and everything with the BJP govt its become a habit for you. Even if the milk spills in your house due to over boiling you will ask DVS to resign for it instead of lowering the flame or switching off the gas. Act like a grown up atleast

    Ismail,

Totally agree with your thoughts. But our current CM DVS should be given to run full term. This murder might be a plot from BJP who is opposed to DVS.

I read an interesting article about our country where it was mentioned that India is ruled by Cleptocracy and not Democracy since we have only robbers and gundas as politicians sitting at the top. There is absolutely no room left for honesty and integrity. There are a few (like this officer) who try to correct the flaws of this corrupt system but pay a huge price for it. May the soul of the noble officer rest in eternal peace.

    Ismail Sir,

You are showing your dirty attitude once again here. You can't make Home minister or Govt responsible here. If miscreants attacks someone, how do you hold Govt responsible? Govt has already taken steps to nab the attackers. You can blame Govt if it fails to take action.

You pin point at others many times here and teach morality to others. Why don't you grow up and repair yourself?

I hope his ultimate sacrifice is not in vain and that which he was investigating is fully exposed. The shadowy political criminals who have planned and uted this grievous attack should face the full might of the law.

Are the protectors of the law up to it???? Time will tell.

Where is this Anna sleeping??? This agent of BJP finds fault only with Maharashtra.

The masterminds will not be affected even if supari killers are arrested. Exactly like Haren Pandya's father said " Dont catch the hands that killed my son, catch the brain behind the killing"

May God give rest to his soul. We lost a honest officer. The other day I saw on TV his father in tears. Our police officers fail to nab the culprits, politicians are hiring local mafia to kill honest officials.

If this is the case of a honest officer, than who would like to be honest and fight corruption at the cost of life? the Govt has to protect and prove that i protects people. If a high ranking officer could face this than what about a simple citizen go throw? This is high time some action is taken and assurance is given to common man that law does exisits and all are safe!
